A Great Duct Tape story
Now here is a use that's really great, almost beats some of Don's uses.
After a contentious four-minute argument, Municipal Court judge Stephen F. Belden decided he had had just about enough of defendant Harry Brown's mouth. So he had his bailiff shut it with duct tape.
Belden said he first heard of this unconventional way of maintaining order in the court at a training session, but hadn't had to resort to it during his previous 12 years on the bench.
For his part, Brown, who was silenced during a pretrial hearing on charges of shoplifting and fighting with Wal-Mart security guards, claims that he lost some mustache hairs during the duct tape's painful removal, and is thinking of filing a complaint with the Ohio Supreme Court.
This may be an uphill battle for Brown, for despite our founding fathers' clear love of justice and facial hair, the Sixth Amendment contains no provision for a defendant's right to an intact mustache.

Had a county judge keep the stuff on his bench when he had juve court. Never had to use it other than shaking it at the kids.

I saw a friend of mine use it on his over active boys one day after several warnings that he was going to duct tape their mouths closed if they didn't quite down. They didn't he did.

Duct tape is so cruel on children, I threaten, then give them a "Swirly". All of my Nieces and Nephews that are now grown use it as a disciplinary tool with their children, it works.

For those unfamiliar with a Swirly, you pick the child up by the feet, hold them upside down, transport them to the bathroom, lift the lid and seat to the toilet, place their head in the water and pull the flush lever.
It usually only takes one actual swirly to convince them, then a threat is all that is needed to maintain a certain level of decorum!

I saw that 1 more post would put me at 600 so here it is.
My Wife and I have no children of our own, so all of our own siblings thought we lacked fulfillment and that we needed to be exposed to their's. Hence, we spent a fair amount of time with our Nieces and Nephews. I learned that many parents tend to block out their own children's bad behavior. They become so used to it, that it actually becomes just like background noise to them. They ignore it!
Not having any of our own, the bad behavior was more in our face. A little discipline seemed to improve their attitude. Their Parent's used to comment that they seemed so well behaved around us. To this day they still call me UNCA JIM and love to recall and tell the stories to their own children of spending time with AUNT KAY and UNCA JIM!

You're joking of course or would water boarding be acceptable for disciplining your children also.

Not kidding, only takes once and is far less cruel than waterboarding, I let them pinch their nose closed!

Jim, I bet you even let your kids drink out of a water hose after playmates and play on a swing set painted with lead base paint.

Sorry, but when a thread turns to giving ideas on how to abuse (torture) children I get a little touchy. The news each day identifies another child abuser. I continue to hope Jim Stewart is joking about holding children upside down with their head in the toilet, even if he did let them hold their nose. Thats not funny to me, as a matter of fact, I think it pretty darn sick.
It's probably time for the mod's to shut this thread down. JMHO

Elkhart, you have got to be kidding!
If you consider a Swirly torture or abuse you have a different definition than most of the population. This was and is a common joke and is only needed to get a kids attention, you need only get their head close to the toilet and it works.
Sorry your delicate sensitivities were offended. If more people disciplined their children instead of people describing discipline as torture or abuse, we would not have so many problem children in todays society.
I have two Nephews whose Mother never allowed them to be disciplined, they both are worthless bums. The Nieces and Nephews that received appropriate discipline learned the difference between right and wrong and pain and reward. They all turned out to be great adults.

Jim, the times they are a changing. Can't say I ever got or gave my son a swirly. Spoke of it a few time. I even thought it might be a good way to clean up after a poopy diaper a few times. Just hold on to him and flush!. But its like all those e-mails you get about days gone by. The drinking from a water hose, riding a bike or skateboard and not even owning a helmet or pads. Like myself and my son not wearing seatbelts. My son tucked in standing behind my shoulder as I drive down the road. And yes, he and I both got our share of
whoopings growing up. Fact he got his worse that lasted about 50 yards from the chicken pen to the house for chasing the chickens with the dog, got that whooping with his own belt the whole way. All of these plus more would be considered abuse today. But dispite me, he has grown into a good respectable man. My job is done and I am very proud. Yes abuse is bad,I deal with it on a daily basis. My first question is usually , Is the abuse for the benefit of the child ,to correct, to teach right form wrong, to learn a lesson. Or is it to amuse the abusor. Thats how I draw the line.. Didn't mean to get up on that box oops Have a good Evening
