Campgrounds in Texas

Hi y'all! We are new to the DFW metroplex and are looking for weekend getaways within about two hours of the DFW metroplex. Just looking for "nice" campgrounds with level sites to enjoy a little peace and quiet. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Do you prefer state parks, private campgrounds, more rustic or resort type?

We love state parks and private parks with resort like amenities. I know, I didn't narrow the search a whole lot. We are from Virginia with either mountains or oceans to see and every weekend. We are looking for a place that is clean with large sites and maybe something within a short distance to venture out and see.

I agree that the Vineyard Campground is nice, but it's also just 10 minutes away. Maybe just a little further out of the Metroplex

Grapevine it great..only way you know there is a bustling metro area beyond the trees is the jets flying over head. Lake should be back up too. Bass Pro just down the street along with the Grapevine mall.

Check Corp of Engineers at Lake Benbrook (Holiday Park). At $20. per night you don't feel as though you're "buying" the lot just to stay a few nights. www.campgroundreviews.com is a good source and has a write-up on Holiday..........

We stayed at Rustic Creek Ranch in Burleson a couple of weeks ago, it was clean, quiet, full hook ups...could be two hours away depending on traffic!

We are at Garner State Park right now....its so pretty, but the drought has taken it's toll on the communities around here...Texas is blessed with a wonderful State Park system.

When visiting frisco tx we stay at hidden cove on lake lewisville in the colony. We find it reasonably priced, quiet and close to the places we visit.
