I have a big thermometer by the pool in my back yard and it registered 120 degrees this afternoon. That was at about 5:00 and it is in direct sun, but that is as high as it goes! I think I am melting!!!

Blacktie.Shooter

Glad you got a !

My dh reminded me that Ohio is hot & sticky in the summer! The only saving grace about it is that it's for a lot shorter period of time (say June through September maybe!!) then it's cold the remaining 9 months of the year!!!

I guess I'll stick around here...unless ya'll happen to have some extra room up there with an rv pad, 50 amp hookup and sewer/dump station available! I need to get outa this heat!!!!

Question: Have ya'll forgotten where we live and what real Texas summers are supposed to be like?

Answer: Just like what we are having right now.

Well, actually, Jerry, the National Weather Service says:

Quote:
JUNE 2009 - A MONTH OF HEAT AND A MONTH OF RECORDS

JUNE 2009 WAS ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS. THERE WERE SO MANY NEW RECORDS ESTABLISHED...IT IS DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN.

HOUSTON RECORDED ITS WARMEST DAILY TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE. THE THERMOMETER REACHED 104 DEGREES TWICE...ON THE 24TH AND THE 26TH.

JUNE 2009 WAS ALSO THE 2ND WARMEST JUNE EVER RECORDED FOR THE CITY OF HOUSTON. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR JUNE 2009 WAS 85.6. THE WARMEST AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE FOR JUNE OCCURRED IN 1906 AND WAS A SIZZLING 85.9 DEGREES.

THE TEMPERATURE REACHED OR EXCEEDED 100 DEGREES FOR SEVEN CONSECUTIVE DAYS BEGINNING ON THE 23RD AND ENDING ON THE 29TH. THIS TIES THE LONGEST CONSECUTIVE STRING OF 100 DEGREE DAYS IN CITY HISTORY. THIS LAST HAPPENED BETWEEN JUNE 16 AND JUNE 22 1902.

THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR JUNE WAS 96.7 DEGREES WHICH IS THE WARMEST AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED. THE PREVIOUS WARMEST AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 96.3 DEGREES ESTABLISHED IN 1980.

Rain.....What is that.

Rain is liquid precipitation. On Earth, it is the condensation of atmospheric water vapor into drops heavy enough to fall, often making it to the surface. Rain is the primary source of fresh water for most areas of the world, providing suitable conditions for diverse ecosystems, as well as water for hydroelectric power plants and crop irrigation. However, not all rain reaches the surface; some evaporates while falling through dry air. This is called virga, a phenomenon often seen in hot, dry desert regions. The METAR code for rain is RA.
Rain is also known or suspected on other worlds. On Titan, Saturn's largest moon, infrequent methane rain is thought to carve the moon's numerous surface channels. On Venus, sulfuric acid virga evaporates 25 km from the surface. There is likely to be rain of various compositions in the upper atmospheres of the gas giants, as well as precipitation of liquid neon and helium in the deep atmospheres.

I guess we are getting some of that Virga rain since we never see it.

Ok guys...I'm tired of all the whining. We've been talking to many of the locals here in the Yellowstone area and they claim this is the coolest and wettest summer in several years. It's rained every afternoon accept one since we got here nine days ago. Yesterday, what we would call a blue norther blew through and the temp dropped from a high of 77 to 54 and by bedtime it was 46. Turned the heat pumps on, pulled on the long handles and "hunkered" down. Woke up this morning to a lite rain and hard down cold. Bottom line...

We're headed to the Grand Tetons in the morning for a couple days and then we'll start heading south to Texas and we will bring much needed rain and cooler temps with us. I don't want to hear one of you fuss about having to wear a coat in late July as I'm having to do as I'm sitting here writing this.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Hey Jim - When you leave YNP. please do not take the cool weather with you - leave it there for us. We will be there in 3 weeks and have already promised not to take our heat up there with us
