New Pilot Program for Texas State Parks

Barbara sent this link to me recently and I found it very interesting! There are a lot of us who certainly might use this feature...sure hope the pilot test does well and they'll open it up to other state parks here in Texas!!!

•Lake Livingston State Park Piloting New Campsite Reservation System

LIVINGSTON – Campers planning to visit Lake Livingston State Park in the Pineywoods can now select a specific campsite while making reservation under a one-year pilot program introduced recently.

The site-specific reservations policy is unprecedented in the Texas State Park system, which has always operated on a first-come, first-served basis when securing a campsite.

Sounds very cool, but I would be careful on this. We chose a site once for Thanksgiving week, and called to try to book it and were successful. When we called, I verified that the site could accommodate our 40' rig, to which they enthusiastically agreed. Well, the tree that was near the site was close , but not too close. What we couldn't see from Google Earth, and what the campground failed to recognize, was that the branches overhanging that site were too low for our rig. Sure, it was long enough, but it wasn't TALL enough.

I wish they had told me that bc we had to move to a diff site further away from our friends. :(

If you book all on your own, you need to do your research. Google earth is helpful, but in our cases, it wasn't enough.
