We have cancelled our reservations with Onalaska KOA for the Spring Fling. With both our ages plus underlying medical conditions, we feel we are better off staying clear of crowds.

Just my thoughts on this, but I feel that since the vast majority of the Texas Boomers are in the high risk group, the rally should be cancelled.

We have decided to just hunker down for a couple of months in our little 55 plus gated RV community in Mission, TX and wait this out. Everything here is closed down and about 1/2 of the snowbirds have already headed north.

Everyone needs to stay safe.

For what it is worth, and as of today there are no reported cases of the virus in Polk county TX. If the rally goes on as planned, no one attending should attend if they have the slightest symptom of the virus. A lot will depend on the decision next week on the country returning back to normal and the guidelines for that return.

Don, Escapees in Livingston were exposed to COVID 19 by a Doctor in Livingston that had symptoms and see patients. The Escapees notified Escapees at the CARE center yesterday, The Doctor did test positive for COVID 19. The virus will not disappear by next week of next month....that is wishful thinking.

Y'all stay safe.

KOA has canceled all April rallies.they are issuing refunds for all who made reservations. If you do not receive your refund call the park and ask for Vicky or Christina

In view of the current health crisis and the age group we are in and many with some health issues, Cancelling the rally for April is the wisest move.

Closing this thread

I making an administrative decision to close this thread before more comments and uninformed statements are made thus turning a bad situation into a worse one.

At the time of the posting the announcement, the KOA, in that county, was NOT under any strict orders. Rumors were looming, but nothing officially set in place.

Since the rally was almost a month away, we posted the rally, in agreement with the park to post with the specific notation to check back daily with any updates as the threat progressed. When attendees called in to make their reservations, the park made them aware that we might not have use of the rally hall, but we would still be allowed to come and gather outdoors.

Within days of the announcement, the orders were issued for 2 weeks w/school cancellations, prohibiting of no more than 10 people at a gathering, etc - which was to end on April 5th.

The park and the club adopted a " wait and see" stance and were set to reevaluate the situation on the April 5th deadline when the orders were expected to be lifted.

NO ONE could have known how fast things would progress. Just TODAY (March 30) the orders were extended to the end of April throughout the region. So Today (March 30) ,6 days before the reevaluation date, the park notified us that the rally was cancelled. Immediately, the post was edited to announce the cancellation.

The REASON we did not cancel ourselves is because a deposit for use of the rally hall had been made. If THE CLUB cancelled, we would forfeit that deposit and all the attendees would forfeit 10% of their reservation rate. If THE PARK cancelled, the deposit would be refunded and the attendees would receive a full refund as well.

Many of you may remember the fiasco 3 years ago when Hurricane Harvey hit our area. We were booked at another KOA and when we cancelled the rally, we LOST the $400 deposit made on the rally hall in accordance with the KOA contract that was signed. Note: the park settled the matter in many other ways since then.

This KOA wanted to make that decision to cancel so "officially" we would not be penalized and lose our rally hall and reservation deposits.
