2016 Flagstaff Mac 176ltd no a/c

We just purchased this 2016 Flagstaff Mac 176 Ltd and it has no a/c. I called a couple of Flagstaff dealers and they said it was prewired for rooftop a/c. They said it would cost @$1700. We really need a/c but that is a lot of money. I also don’t think my Honda eu2200 could run a 13,500 btu unit.

Has anyone had any experience with those portable a/c units? They seem like a reasonable alternative. Plus if I use an 8000 btu unit I think my generator can handle it. They are @$300. Much cheaper than a rooftop. My camper is so small I don’t think the a/c would be overwhelmed.

I am not willing to customize a window style unit into our camper.

Thanks

Camp CA thanks for your response. I have seen charts like the one you posted. Very good info. I have read that those soft start kits void any warranty on the rooftop units. It seems as if my Honda generator should run the a/c 8000 btu and everything else in my little camper. We don’t take a microwave or coffee pot or anything else with high electric use.
From what I can tell it seems like the 2 issues with the portable a/c units are the space they require and you have to exhaust the vent outside. Most units are @12x12x26tall. I can live with that footprint. There are lots of screens that I wouldn’t think it would be hard to fix up a vent to the outside.

Wondering if anyone has used them and if they found it acceptable. I know they make noise but every rooftop a/c that I have owned we’re noisy as well.

Thanks
