Buying used for my first pop up - how much should I spend?

I’ve been reading a lot about the danger signs and what to watch for. But I still have one question: is there a price under which you know a pop-up is not worth buying?

Thanks!

In my experience used pop ups are almost always overpriced for what they are.

Buy as new as possible for the dollars you have available. Go see new ones and pick a brand you think is well built. Our second one had a small kitchen slide that added about 12” inside. The extra space is nice. Look at lots of them until you find one that was stored under roof when not used. They are out there but most people keep them outside. Owned 2 different Coleman’s when the kids were growing up over a 15 year period. Loved them. Ac is nice but if you only camp in milder climates save your money. Most do not have it anyways. Look hard at roof for any signs of water damage. If you see repairs inside or out walk away and keep looking. Water sucks. Our first Coleman was 11years old when we sold it for $3500. About 1/3 of the new price. Best time to buy in the north is going into winter. Now is worse time. Enjoy the memories you will make.

Enjoy the journey

I just sold a 2003 Coleman Santa Fe for $3000 last October. Of course I thought it was worth more, but it was well used and well cared for.

My first pop up I bought for $175 and had a lot of good camping trips in it. Did some work to it and fixed a few things while I had it and sold it for $700 to a father and son who were wanting to do some camping together. I’m sure it worked out great for them.

Just find something you like that is in your budget and buy it. There really is no hard and fast rule to go by when buying any type of camper. It’s all about what you want and what will make you happy.

Buying a pop up.

Most people only keep a pop up for 5to 6yrs. Then they get tired of the set up and purchase a hardside unit.
