Harvest Host

I noticed a rule of Harvest Host is to not allow pop ups, car (including SUV) camping, and similar.

Is this a universal no no or are there exceptions? Is there an app that provides similar camping options as Harvest Host or plain ol' boondocking for those of us who don't own motorhomes or trailers?

The definition of RV is Recreational Vehicle.

A proper RV is any unit that has a sleeping area, kitchen, but more importantly, a self contained washroom facility onboard.

Sleeping in a car is definitely not an RV.

You avoided addressing my question. Sounded like you were addressing something else that was bothering you. All popups are capable of all of those amenities. Some SUVs are, also.

Boondockers Welcome allows popups if they are fully self contained.

For car and tent camping, freecampsites dot net is a good resource, plus most any national and state forest campgrounds allow all sorts of camping. Also check out iOverlander dot com and hipcamp dot com.

Harvest Hosts does allow hardsided popups (Aframes) We are members.
That said, you are not missing much by not joining Harvest Hosts. The suggested spend at the location is $35 and there is no electric, water, or bathhouse. If you are in a popup or Aframe that means no A/C and no bathhouse. So, add another $15 for a shower at Love's and you are at $50. Which isn't too bad if the $35 spend was on something you can use. We have purchased some lousy wine and in some places the $35 is just a donation because they don't sell anything.

That said, we have stayed in a couple of great places. One was a farm with goats and we purchased some great beef. Another was a brewpub where we had a great time, met some other campers, played trivia, and had a meal. If there were more of these, I would stay every night.

We found that Passport America is a better deal for us. We often get campsites for $25 or less with water, electric, and a bathhouse.
