Hello from New England!
Iím not a typical camper, in that I stay at only one place for the summer, I donít even tow it. I currently own a 20 year old pop-up Coleman,Tacoma, with minimal amenities.(cold water and heat) I rely on the campground amenities. Itís really seen better days, and Iím hoping to upgrade for next year. My funds are limited, & looking to either upgrade to new/ improved pop-up or a hybrid. I spend 2 weeks at a time In it early in the summer, then some long weekends. Iím getting tired of cranking up, (since it no longer cranks all the way!) zipping and unzipping windows due to weather etc... But I enjoy the openness of the pop up since Iím near the coast and love the View & sea breeze. Yes, it sounds like IĎm needing a hybrid/expandable type, but not sure I can afford one. Would definitely be looking for used for either type. Iím just overwhelmed by all the brands. companies and sub-divisions of the big companies! Mine is great till I have a rainy day and have to spend all day in it! I know what I see and like, but not sure they are reputable anymore. Seems like everything else these days, they donít make emí like they used to, and you can see, I keep mine for a long time! HELP!

I understand why you like a popup camper. Our first 13 years of camping were in a popup and I still miss sleeping under the canvas....but I confess to liking the amenities of the travel trailers we've owned and our motor home.

I think all you can do is start searching for a pop up using Craig's List, rvtrader.com and any other resources you can find. They're just not as popular as they once were, so there's fewer newer used ones to be found. If I were looking, I still thing Jayco or Starcraft units would be my preference but, condition of the tent material would be the bigger concern along with the condition of the roof.

What you may find and or consider, that the price of used popups or hybrids may be in the same range as a smaller self-contained travel trailer.

Good luck with your search!

I too, had a 99/2000 Coleman Tacoma...just gave it to my son...even more basic than yours...no heater! Still sitting in my side yard, though. Have been pulling popups since 1969 (with parents). None of them have ever even had brakes! Love the openness on those warm but breezy days. Hate the openness on those windy and freezing cold days! Yes, píups (pups) can be a love/hate relationship. Two options to look at for you: high wall pups with power lift; and hybrids. I donít think a small TT will give you the openness of a pup you might want. But they certainly will be easier to load/unload, setup, and close up for inclement weather. And with a large canopy and a couple of Ďzero gravityí lounge chairs outside, sounds about perfect to me. These old bones are tired of 3-4Ē thick foam Ďmattressesí. My next trailer will be a smallish TT or pod and not a pup. Goodbye backaches. If you are set on a pup, look for Somerset (fka Coleman and Fleetwood) or Rockwood/Flagstaff. Jayco/Starcraft are on a par or maybe a bit lower now; not the same as they used to be.
