Newbie with a question

My husband and I recently purchased a Rockwood XL pop up camper. It would not crank open on one side. We took apart that end and discovered the telescoping rod had rusted shut. We took it out, and all the rotted wood in the area, and replaced the rod. The top now opens quite easily. However, since this is the first time we were able to open it, we discovered that it won't lock open. Obviously, this poses a problem! Does anyone know what the issue might be and a way to get this pop up to stay up? Thanks so much for reading my post and I hope someone has a suggestion.
Happy Camping

Glad your here

Try to spray the crank assembly with WD-40 if the post was rusted out then the crank is stuck also. As a added protection fab a piece of U channel from Alum that will fit around the post on two corners on the front and back put them on opposite sides so if it comes creeping down the U channel will catch it and hold it up reason being for the opposite corner
