Tires

I read a lot of RV stuff and people seem to be very concerned about tires. Especially about the "China bombs". Some folks are changing their trisr every three years, "just to be safe."

I currently have Carlisle 175 80 13 Radials on our Aliner. Last year on one of our trips, I caught a screw close to the edge. I caught it right away because we have a TPMS and I constantly watch the pressures and temperatures.

I plugged the tire at the next Love's. It never got hot. It only lost a few PSI - from 50 down to 45.

Now, I am thinking I should replace the tire and move the other one to the spare. It is only two and a half years old and has plenty of tread. But I read a lot about tire issues on trailers. Is it mostly the larger, overloaded RVs that don't have TPMS that have issues?

We are taking a 3000 mile trip in a few weeks. I have driven 1000 or so miles since the screw incident - SC to Tampa and return.

Am I being too concerned about this?

If not, What should I replace them with?
Do I need $100 tires on an Aliner?

As long as the plug is not right at the edge you should be ok. The fact that you have pulled over 1000 miles with no issues says its holding good. But if it makes you nervous and the spare is older, i would consider replacing it and using plugged as a spare.

Good plan. That is exactly what I decided to do.
