1st Week RV Owner - Minnie Winnie 22R

It's only been a week, been on a trip, and feeling comfortable with it. Equipped it with most everything we need and have most of any questions answered.

Any recommendations on exterior cleaning and waxing materials?
Does dishwasher soap really work cleaning out the grey water tank?

Thanks!

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! Keep her between the ditches!

I just use the Turtle Wax standard car wash ($5+ per gallon) for washing. Never wax because it has full-body paint with clear coat and still looks like new after 14 years!

We don't use anything in the gray tank. We use Happy Camper tank treatment in the black tank!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

We are pleased you joined us. To answer your question about dish soap. Yes my DW puts Dawn dish soap in our black tank after every dump. Our black tank stays very clean. Often I don't dump the black or grey tank when I leave the campground in the morning if I will be in a full hookup site that night. It gives the soapy solution a chance to slosh around before I dump it.

For your info we have a Winnebago Chat every Tuesday night at 9 PM EDT and you are always welcome to join in. Enjoy the forums.

No Wax!
There are many systems for cleaning and protecting TT exteriors. I tried one. Poliglow worked fine. It has been two years since I applied it and it still makes it easy to clean and remove bug splatter.

https://www.poliglowproducts.com/

It is finicky to clean and apply. Follow directions exactly. There is a removal procedure. I have not needed the removal procedure yet.

Dishwasher soap
I tried many ways to clean black and gray water tanks. I obsessed over perceived maintenance needs. In the end I use a 45 degree transparent elbow connected to waste drain valves. It shows when everything has been flushed and drained.

I use multiple fill and dump for the black tank. I don't worry about the gray tank, just drain it.

Forget:
Ice cubes in black tank
Geo method
Commercial pucks and liquids
Other special formulas and procedures

For special cleaning, I put just a little "powered water softener" like Arm and Hammer Supper Washing Soda from the grocery store into tank with 5 to 10 gallons of water and drive 100 miles. I then dump when I arrive at destination campground.

Lots of stuck-on stuff flushes from the black tank when I arrive. Nothing of note flushes from the gray tank.

I have had my TT for 4 years. Tank level sensors for black and gray work sometimes. I use the fresh tank level to estimate how much is in gray tank. Black tank has never filled.

Gray tank filled only once. Water backed up into shower. This was not a serious issue to correct. I can now hear when level is getting high.

I wish you good luck and happy trails ahead.

I use the products from Aero Cosmetics for cleaning and waxing. A bit expensive, but very easy to apply and does a really good job of cleaning. As a bonus, they will also work without water so can wash the rig in campgrounds without breaking their water policy.

I don't put anything in my grey tank and use Happy Camper in the black. Use lots of water in the black tank and be sure to flush it thoroughly when dumping.
