Hey guys,
Brand new RV owner here. I purchased a 2000 National Tropical to get me feet wet. The seller offered to drive it to my location - and everything was fine. I left it in a metal building that I just had erected. I came back in three weeks, of course the starting battery was dead. I charged it up - and the V10 fired up. But the house battery was dead - and was defective. I installed a brand new deep cycle battery and cleaned up the terminals of the "starting" battery. After the house battery was installed, I was putting the big gauge positive lead on and the ground lead....one wire left to go - the small gauge "white" wire was on the "hot" post. When I touched it to the positive - I hear a growling pump sound. Wasn't doing it before. I realized it was the Power Gear hydraulic pump that was trying to run. The RV was not running and key switch was off. Does anyone have a suggestion on why the pump is trying to run? So, I've left it off. The RV does need to be leveled from left to right approx. 1-1/2" once the main slide was extended. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dan

I also have a 2000 tropical. You refered to 1 house battery, mine has 2 six volt batteries connected in series. If you have just 1 twelve volt then we can possibly rule out low voltage but if you have 2 six volts and replaced just 1 a low voltage condition may exist. It is strongly recommended that both batteries be replaced at the same time. This is just a starting point.

Thanks for your input. The starting battery is separate from the house battery.

My 1999 National Sea Breeze RV will not lift the jacks at all. I lubricated all four. The control panel shows a red light, all jacks down. When turned on (green light) nothing moves and there is no sound. I'd appreciate any help out there. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me if my 1999 National Sea Breeze has any way to manually raise the jacks? I can't get them to raise hydraulically.

What brand and model jacks do you have?

When you try to stow them exactly how far into the process does it get?

re: Baycity/ why Power gear Pump Running? Equipped with LEVELERS OR SLIDES, OR BOTH? For pumps to run, possibilities are a) shorted level controller; b) bad/ shorted Rocker SWITCH for Slides ; 3) ELECTRICAL SOLENOIDS are sticking engaged (This was MY slide issue, would stay engaged after releasing rocker and trip 12vdc circuit breaker by the battery; replacing both solenoids cured). Are the jacks equipped w/ return SPRINGS, or upper and lower hoses? If springs, I suspect there is a solenoid bypass valve for each on the Pump that you can open?

2000 Tropical 36' with 2 12v house batteries.
My first trip was Little Rock to Texarkana with the jack alarm beeping and red light flashing telling me the jacks were down. Physically checked throughout the trip and the spring returns did their job and the jacks were in fact fully up. The reservoir was low from seeping seals so the sensor thought the jacks were extended. Since the system uses transmission fluid I got tranny fluid with leak stop. Stopped the alarms and lights AND stopped the leaks on the jacks.

Your hydraulic system should have a big spring on each jack. When you push the UP button a solenoid opens and lets the fluid in the jacks return to the reservoir because they are under spring tension. The pump does not run when you are putting the jacks up. It may sound stupid but in park, engine running and PARKING BRAKE depressed and of course House power switched on.

As far as the control panel, if you are showing a green or red light, but no movement from the jacks, check to see if the house batteries are turned on and charged. The control panel gets its power from the chassis battery, but the pumps get their power from the house battery.

my power gear jacks has a in line fuse at the jack pump. it is in a black rubber pack with a black rubber cap on it. hard to see. might be a bad pump fuse.
all else fails, loosen a hose at the tank to see if springs will pull jacks up. if so you have a sylnoid problem.

the first thing I would check is the fluid level and previously noted... that appears to be the major culprit when it comes to jacks down .... i just topped my reservoir off yesterday as my Power Gear system was indicating jacks down with alarm and flashing lights... topped off the reservoir and all is fine.... just my .02 cents..
