2000 Safari repairs

I am basically new to forums and am wondering where to ask for help to get my rv drivable again. It is a 2000 Safari.

Can I ask what chassis and engine your coach has , and do you have any specific problems , or are you just in need of a maintenance check list to go through before you hit the road?

What's wrong with it? If it isn't running, just about any service place that's works on diesel motorhomes should be able to help you.

need help

I need some advice on getting a 2000 Safari motorhome driving again, it has been sitting for about three years and I suspect the batteries were hooked up wrong. There is no wiring diagram available for the battery box from what I've gathered and I can't understand why there was not a clear diagram included to begin with. It starts at the service center but the electronic transmission controller does not power up. It has a Caterpillar engine and Allison transmission.
I tried to fix it a couple years ago but gave up on it as life became complicated because of identity theft. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated because I'm really tired of living in it where it sits and my landlord recently cut off my water supply.
I called around the Portland/Vancouver area for a qualified technician and was surprised to find out that most will not work on one that is over 15 years old. I found one that will work on it but the soonest possible appointment was 2.5 weeks. He did suggest I unhook both chassis and house sides and touching the + and - together to clear any trouble codes. I'm upset at myself now for buying it as I'm also having a problem changing the title now. I really miss my simple life as a collision technician and hate being on unemployment. Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have wiring diagrams and schematics for Freightliner XC , chassis with Allison 3060 and a Caterpillar 3126B engine .

Is that the chassis you have ?

I haven't worried about the maintenance because it hasn't been driven. The tires are toyo and are like new with no cracks whatsoever. One half of the windshield is cracked severely from the upper right side, I am unsure how this happened. After parking it I had to replace the right front brake line which I had to have made. I fully changed and bled the system at that time and am assuming they are still operable because there are no leaks. Headlights were weak upon parking it but this doesn't concern me because I don't intend to drive it at night. The reason I bought it to begin with was I had a good job lined up at thet coast that fell through because it took me to long to find an rv I would be comfortable in. My intention was to save money and get out of portland.

It has a magnum chassis and am pretty sure your right about the drivetrain, it's a 330 horse cat with Allison world transmission. It also has a silver leaf diagnostic computer in the dash.

Look around the engine bay for the transmission controller and a VIM ( Vehicle Interface Module ) yellow circle in the picture below , there are two fuses inside that supply battery and ignition power to the trans controller and the shift pad.

If the shift pad isn't lit up you can't start the engine with the key .

Okay , I had no idea on that as my mechanical skills are basically just changing parts and 12 volt experience is basic. Yes to the 3126b engine and it has an 8 airbag suspension system. Thank you for your help, I will look in the engine bay tomorrow.

Look in your battery bay for a "smaller" wire attached to your chassis batteries that has a fuse holder. This supplies 12v to the transmission ECU. On my '98, it's marked but doesn't look like a conventional fuse holder. Attached is the 12v primary schematic. It's for a different year but should help. I also suggest you try a Safari specific forum - safarifriends.org

Good luck. Electrical problems can be tough. I dread working on them, but you seem to know the basics, so take your time and work your way through the system. Trace it as far as you can. These things can be a wiring rats nest. When I first got mine I had a problem with the in dash heater controls. Safari must have got a deal on white wire. Had to use a schematic and physically trace each wire in the circuit, testing with a meter at each step until I found the culprit. The PO had replaced a relay with the wrong one. Only discovered it when I pulled the relay to meter the wire and noticed there were five wires on the plug and only four prongs on the relay. I was stumped until then.

Third time's the charm

I had to get a new phone and it doesn't seem to like me. Vandalized again, second set of keys missing as well. God help him. Anyway the driver's side windshield is now broken and I think this is about the tenth time my Jeep has been gotten into. Should of bought a hard top I guess. I'm really feeling hated at this point. Anyway, task at hand is to move this beast to better grounds. I found a blown fuse in the transmission relay box which is an obvious problem, thanks for the tip. Now to the battery center, house side seems correct because most everything works and I have 12.5 volts on the monitor. Chassis side I'm unsure of as they were probably hooked up wrong. Following some advice I unhooked everything and now not wanting to make a mistake need some more educated eyes. The monitor reads 8 volts on the chassis side with everything unhooked, strange to me but I'm probably in over my head to begin with this being my first rv. Just don't want to make another mistake.
