2016 Thor Hurricane Engine A/C

On our way home to Florida from New England our engine A/C started a tapping or clicking sound that stops when the A/C is turned off.

It still blows cold air. I was thinking it may be the clutch pressure plate.

Anyone ever had this problem?

TIA

I think its the fan, and mine only seems to do it on high speed after going over some bumps. Whenever it does this, I just turn the fan off a few seconds and then back on low again.

I do not have a fan switch.

It does stop when I turn off the A/C.

You have to have a fan speed control switch.

I do not have a fan speed control switch!

Even so, if it was the fan, why would the noise stop when I turn off the A/C?

It is a gas engine if that matters.

If you turn off the AC, the fan blowing air through the ducts will stop. I also doubt Thor would supply their own AC controls when the panel comes with the Ford chassis.

I thought you were talking about the engine fan, not the blower fan.

I don't think the noise with the blower fan would change with the engine speed, it should stay constant until I turn it up or down with the blower switch.

As far as we can tell on ours there's no cabin filter. So, it could be some piece of something rattling around. Dead lizards are common here.

Good news. On our model, the main AC hoses are easily accessed from under the hood. Simple ring clamps connect them to the dash registers.

Easy to unhook each side and then point duct hose towards the ground, or better yet, connect to a large wet/dry vac hose with some duct tape to make a temp seal and suck the whole duct system clean.

(This method also works for removing mud dauber nests from your water heater boiler exhaust tube.)

If no dead lizard or detritis, then repeat vacumning while cycling fan speed up and down.

The other possibility is your AC fan blower motor is going bad. It's buried under the dash and best served by those still limber enough to access it.
