3 apps that are free and work great
Helllo All
I am on my first 1000 mile trip with my Itasca RV and I have a few apps that are fruee and worked great. One app in particular really saved me huge problem
I want to pass these tips along.
The 3 apps are
RVParky
Truckmap
Truma.
RVParky :
This app is beyond great. Its an app that can find you all kinds of places to park for free, gas stations, rest stops. You can set this up to show you only places that are important to you ( Walmart, Crackle Barrel etc) and also only show you places that allow overnight parking. This works very well. But, it really saved me big time because it also showed me road hazards such as low bridge clearance . This proved to be huge to me as if I had followed Google Maps I would have either hit a 9'6" bridge or turn around and backtrack 100 miles. I would have never seen this without the hazard notations on the app. This app is not a GPS, but, it certainly can show you whats around you. I feel it is a must have.
TruckMap:
THis is a GPS that you can put in your rigs weight, height, and length and it will route you accordingly. I had never used this app but did have it on my phone so when I saw that there were many low bridges where I was at ( south east PA ) I used it to get me to my next destination. It worked great and kept me informed on my next turn and what lane to be in. It is a must have for anyone with a rig over 6ft high..
Truma:
This a a great app to help you level your rv when you park. You set it up with measurements from your particular RV ( width and wheelbase ) and it will tell you in inches which wheels you have to raise to be level. Today, I was parked somewhere that my bubble levels said I was perfectly level ( how often does that happen ) so I pulled out my phone and it told me I was level down to one wheel being 0.25" low. It really was spot on.
I got all these apps off of google play for my android phone.
I hope this note helps someone out
PS: My cheap bluetooth TPMS is working great too. Its cooler here in NJ than Florida so all of the tires are reading about 5 PSI less and about 20 degrees cooler so soon I will have to top them up. I want to see how much they will increase after I drive the next 200 miles on my trip.
My 28 ft class C is getting 10 MPG going 60 MPH. Happy camping everyone.

I just installed Truma today and tomorrow I'm going to level up the rig and calibrate it.

I got my Truma leveling app set up today. I'm going to share an idea I came up with that really works well for me. I've always struggled with crummy leveling blocks that bend and collapse, wedges that are hard to use and boards that don't sit right on uneven terrain and can crack, and are a PITA to carry around. So I bought these 16x16 rubber pavers at Lowes for $5.48 each and split them in 1/2. So now I have 8x16 pieces, 3/4" thick each, easy to store, easy to use, indestructible, conform to any terrain and to the tire and they don't slip or move when driving up on them, they are absolutely the easiest and best level blocks I have ever used. The tires just walk up on them with very little effort. You can even use one for a kneeling pad when reaching in with a stack for the inside dual. Highly recommend.

re: tire pressure. If you are following a tire air pressure/weight chart you are running your tires at 100% capacity.
The experts advise to add 15%(if your tires have the head-room) of the load/inflation chart pressures for multiple reasons; so you aren't running your tires at 100%, so you don't have to worry about daily pressures, reduce tire temperature, etc.
For comparison, your auto tires are operating near 75% capacity.

So, I am pondering some truck routes... I know the truck route in our little town is a joke to say the least. It takes trucks down (hill) a street that runs parallel to main street. It is full of pot holes, heaves and dips and a stop sign every block. Is the app intuitive enough to keep you off of roads like this? I ask because I drove for a regional freight company. And, ended up on many city "truck routes" like this.

Oh, and I would imagine the app works great for taking some back roads while traveling.
