How much oil does a 454 engine in a '93 Winnebago Brave hold? I recently purchased it as my first-ever RV, in excellent condition, but with zero documentation on the motor or trans. During my first oil change with it, it quickly became apparent that it holds quite a bit more than 5 quarts.

Thanks for any insight.

Download the Workhorse Motorhome Chassis Guide in the Workhorse Chassis Mootorhome Forum (WCMC). It's one of the featured topics on the top of the page. It has all the fluid quantities for your engine and transmission and contains other useful information as well.

Probably 6-7 quarts with a filter change, but it depends on the filter used. There are standard and high capacity filters for the 454 and the high capacity filter hold one quart and the ulltra high one two quarts.

Isn't the dip stick marked? Change the filter, put in five quarts and start it up, then run it for 30-60 seconds. Then add oil until the dipstick shows "full". Next time you will know how much it takes.

The info in the Workhorse Guide will be correct for later model 454's and probably yours as well, but there are a couple different oil pans used with 454's and that changes the oil quantity. Don't be alarmed if yours actaully takes more or less.

Thanks - Just need a bit of reassurance. Looks like it took a bit over 7. That might help in the I believe I have the P30 chassis, but I'll check the Workhorse info; thanks for the tip!

Oil Capacity is 7.5 quarts on this engine with the standard oil filter. This is real world capacity, not what the book says
