50 amp power cord for reel. Just the cord

Hi

I pulled out of Phx today dragging my shore power cord. I need to replace or splice on a new one. Reel is fine. It’s just the cord. Anything I need to know ? Can these be spliced ? 2022 Foretravel realm.

Thanks

Tom

you may get some suggestions if you post the manufacturer of your cord reel.

Did something similar a while back. Just wrapped electrical tape around the abraided section then verify with electrical tester no leakage.

For the plug replacement I've got one of these to replace a OEM plug that was hot to the touch. MICTUNING 125 250V 50Amp Heavy Duty RV Replacement Male Plug with Ergonomic Handle Yellow https://a.co/d/3B4SJUj

If you prefer cut the damaged section and use male & female to join together.

Or even more drastic / expensive would be goto a home center a buy 30 to 40 feet of 6AWG copper cable to replace the cable.

You might call Foretravel in Nacogdoches. I worked with them on another problem and they were very helpful.
Thanks,

I ordered this one. I’ll call FT on Monday to verify fit. I
Shredded mine. This is not a tape job. I am dumbfounded and a little scared since I did a complete walk around and didn’t notice. Ugghh. I’m 61. Is that it? Party over ? Conntek 14302 RV/Generator Power Cord 30-Foot 50 Amp Male Plug to Bare Wire, Black https://a.co/d/fNBCT5M

Don't feel too bad; it could happen to anyone. I would have done it on our last trip if my wife had not asked if I needed to unplug when I was getting ready to drive off.
Happy Camping,

Is it just the end? Or do you need the entire cord?

Looks like you found a good solution--cord/reel on my 2015 IH is a Glendining tub-style with 36 ft of cord. Was concerned about flexibility going into the tub storage so went with an OEM replacement--pretty expensive! Perhaps its OEM length, but 30ft might be a tad short as you will need some extra cord to wrap onto the reel --might leave you only 27-28ft, or so, to work with.
PS--assuming your reel has a feed in/out limiter switch[es]--make sure it wasn't damaged.

Seems fine. I’m going to call the factory tomorrow and get an oem replacement. One person said that Amazon one gets very brittle in the winter. Don’t want to fight the cord.

Exactly, my concern was flexibility--though for your reel design vs my tub-style, that might not be as critical. I wanted OEM so went straight to Glendining [no FT mark-up but I would compare both for pricing] to get a replacement--they were prompt, expensive, but prompt. My tub-style reel has a capacity of 36 ft, so that is what I ordered--working length is about 31 ft. The Glendining cord plug-in also has a built-in status LED, and a release handle that levers the plug out of the pedestal--works pretty cool.

The one you linked to was only 30'. I'm guessing the OEM is closer to 50'. It's a new Foretravel, I would only use what Foretravel recommends. Foretravel may also have someone they recommend to do the work near you.

Contek makes good stuff- I've bought several plugs from them to make up new cords.
