A&E Awning making me nuts!

We have a Dometic A&E awning on our coach. It is about to make me nuts.

The other day we went away for the day early in the morning, the wind came up, and it bounced all day (according to our neighbors) and never rolled up. It was pretty windy out.

Today it is 90 here in Yuma, I have it out for shade, there is no wind and every 15 to 30 mins the thing rolls up.

The manual is useless. It says to use the remote to shut off the wind sensor,,,,, we don't have remotes. Ours is a switch in the coach. There is no other mention how to shut off the sensor. I set the wind sensor at its highest today, 24mph, and it made no difference.

The manual says make sure the wind sesor is clear and clean, but doesn't say where the wind sensor is.

Any one have any clues on this. Called tech support, they closed for the weekend at 4:45 EST.

Thanks Lloyd!

If you figure out the mystery of the wind sensor, you will be the first. Sounds like it is operating like all automatic awnings.

I am new to rv's but I believe I have read is seen somewhere that the wind sensor is in the roof and works like a little windmill to measure the speed of the wind. Try looking on YouTube for videos. If you locate it maybe tie something around it to stop it from spinning and that may stop the awning from closing. This is all just off the top of my head, I am pretty good at figuing stuff out but I am not there and I do not see any other replies at the moment so I figured I would chime in and try to help.

Sorry about the typos in the previous message. My phone keeps changing my words because it thinks it's smarter than me. It is supposed to read " I believe I have read read or seen somewhere that the wind sensor is on the roof"

I remember being told by Dometic several years ago the sensor actually measures the change in temperature across it. Wind is supposed to cause that but temperature rises, especially in the morning, seem to cause awning to retract more often than wind. Years ago at the Winnebago GNR they were giving out foil stickers to place on the top of the sensor that was supposed to help stop the problem of awning retracting from temperature rise. It may help some I think but mine will still retract at times when there is no wind.

There are 3 different types of wind sensors, I believe the Dometic A&E look like a little "lighthouse" on the roof, and is "supposed" to work with a wind blowing across the top (thermowire? maybe?). Least reliable. I remember a Brother In Law (BIL) that had to replace lighthouse sensor and control module (they were paired when he did that).

Second is the carefree little cup, windmill style. Little windmill on the roof.

Third is the motion sensor in the arm that detects a rapid "up and down". This is what I have on my Carefree Eclipse.

Hope this helps,
Brian

Thanks everyone.

Will look around. So far don't see anything. I did roll it in, then change the speed detection to 24mph, then roll it back out and it seems to be staying out. I guess without a remote, there is no way to shutoff the wind sensor.

There is a cable going in the controller labeled wind sensor, gave some thought to unplugging it. But thought maybe I would call support and ask about it on Monday.
