A & E Slideout Topper Awning Replacement

I have an '05 Horizon 40FD with the bedroom slideout topper torn. I have looked online for replacement awning with not alot of luck. Presently I have the factory vinyl and would like to replace with fabric.

I would like your input as to where to buy. Remove and have an upholstery shop make one for me?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Awning replacement

You can get either a fabric or a vinyl topper, the fabric does seem to do better. Believe it or not, Camping World has decent prices on toppers along with installation. If there is a Camping World near you I would sure give them a call. I know several people who have used them for awning and topper replacement and they have all been very happy with price and service. Most toppers and awnings all come in standard sizes so you shouldn't have a problem locating one. You will need to know the length front to back and the extended length. You will also need to look at your hardware, it's usually on the roller, and find out who the original manufacturer was. Hope this helps. Good luck and Happy RVing.

You can also have a local awning company make a topper fabric for you. Tell them the size you want (go a foot deeper than the slide out comes) and that you want an acrylic fabric in whatever color you desire. Once you have the fabric we can help you get it put on with a some that can help.

My main slide topper awning began tearing on both ends, then recently it ripped out the sewing and pulled itself out of the center section, .....soooo, I removed the tube and all (don't forget to install cotter pins or a bent over nail in each end to lock the torsion spring), then removed the white vinyl material and seeing that I had at least 10" of travel left, I cut 4.5 inches off the bad end, which is against the coach and also exposed to the elements..sun included. Took it to my boat upholstery lady and had the bead sewn back in with the good stuff and re-installed it ...all for about $20 bucks and a gallon of gas. Camping World wants $179 with a membership and $79 shipping, just for the topper, not the whole hardware ass'y...and you still have to do the same work. So going that route, you might as well take it to them and have everything replace when things are on sale. Now since there's only about one wrap left on the tube when fully extended....and if there's a next time, then I'll order about $40 worth of this material or maybe even sunbrella and just have her make it up, like the old one.
