Always Keep Looking When Doing Maintenance

Was underneath the MH just doing some general maintenance and having a look-a-round. Saw a wiring loom that didn't look right so I did some further looking and found that it appeared to have gotten hot and melted the split-duct protection and I could see wire insulation showing. I had a sinking feeling that I was going to find copper showing. Cut back the cover back and dodged a big bullet as what ever happened only got the duct and no wires were damaged. Got it repaired and everything appeares fine.

This harness is about an inch in diameter so it has bunch of wires in it. There was a wire tie that has toothed socket to hold on a bolt that was also part melted. Also it wasn't on the bolt where it should have been. Far enough from the exhaust that Ford didn't feel the need to insulate it.

I wish I knew who to blame Fleetwood or Ford. I am leaning towards FW as it was right at the left front jack. I'm guessing when the bolts for the jack were tightened down the monkey with the impact wrench jammed it on the bolt and the rubbing socket melted the plastic. Lucky for me that the bolts were tight when they were and the damage wasn't rubbing on something long enough to cause problems.

Later on I was near the left rear jack and found some, if not all, the hydraulic lines rubbing on the frame, shock mount, crossmember and various other parts. Got started on fixing that mess.

Hard to believe what you can find if you just look. And only in 10,000 miles. QC, training and caring about your work, what a joke.

Totally agree! It doesn't take any more time to do something the right way than to do it the wrong way. Where's the workforce pride? Do it slow or do it fast, just don't do it half-fast! [emoji631]

I'm with ya. I'm always looking under the chassis, in the coach, popping the hood etc. just looking and seeing if anything needs tending to. I usually always find something that I can make either operate better, make it safer or prevent it from failing in the future. Whenever, I find something that needs my attention, I always say to myself, "I wonder what else there might be that I'm missing."

PM is very important to me.

I especially like the "preventive " part

I've tied, insulated, and moved at least 30 wire looms and hoses under my 15 Discovery. No wonder we see pics of MHs on fire. Then there is the other 120 fixes to make things work right and last longer. And another 95 improvements.
Some day someone gonna get a perfect RV if I ever sell it. Ya right...

Thats what I did when we got ours, crawled under and looked for things that they missed, applied some under coat and moved some wires, used about 25 black zip ties. I wouldn't call them monkeys, why insult the wildlife. More like neanderthals

Exactly - Every-time I'm under there I see something new.

This was my best (worst) OMG find:

Found by accident while looking at trailer hitch wiring. When I was looking at how the hitch wiring was installed I noticed something funny on the bracket that mounted the hitch to the frame. It had a 2 inch crack in it, I looked at the other side, and it was cracked also.
