ANOTHER Kwikee step question

I have an older single step model that when I bought the motorhome the step was disconnected from the motor and was being opened manually. I have the owners manual and I troubleshot the motor and put 12v to the red and the white wire that goes to the motor and it works fine. I trouble shot the coach side of the pigtail that goes to the control unit and it gets power when it is supposed and not supposed to and the ground is good. I don't have the Kwikee test pigtail that plugs into the control end of the wiring to test that, but just based on the fact the the motor works properly I would guess the controller is bad correct? The only other issue is that the magnetic switch is missing the piece on the screen door but that shouldn't matter because if the door is open it should get power in one direction or another. Any ideas before I buy another controller? Of course getting a hold of Kwikee direct isn't happening.

Thanks in advance.

The magnetic switch on the screen door is just a ground. When the door is closed the circuit is grounded and open when the door is open. If the motor works, then you are correct it is probably the controller. I just replaced mine, very easy job, but expensive.

There are three fuses for the steps. A main 30 amp. A 15 amp from the ignition that overrides the step switch position by the door when the key is turned on. An another for the switch circuit. Door switches are leaf switches activated by a magnet on the door and make a path to ground. If you have power and get a good ground feeding the controller and you get no power out to the motor the controller is definitely bad. If you install a new controller it should come with a new door switch as it may have a different normal position of open or closed than the one you now have. Be sure to use the new switch or the door will operate in reverse if the switches are wrong.
