Any experience changing the gear set in the rear? making up for toad.
Running a C V-10 @ 15 K, @ Ford 8.8/456, has anyone gone to a Ford 8.8/488? to pick up some bottom end. it would also lower the RPM in shifts, grabbing onto torque.

I seriously doubt you would get any real benefit. For the money you can't beat 5Star tune if you need more power.

Some of you question was Greek to me, but if you have a ford V-10 and need power invest in a banks Power Pac with a transmission shift chip. Most likely not much price difference is what you are saying is changing the gears out in the differential.

I have to agree with the other 2 posts in this thread. If you have 456 gears now going to 488s just isn't enough of a change to make it worth it.
It might be enough to upset the program in the computer responsible for shifting the transmission. There is nothing like the feeling you get when you find out your new mod is dislike by the electronics.
And just so you know Ford has never used the 8.8 rear axle in any vehicle behind the V-10 or in ANY vehicle above 6600 GVW.
A 8.8 has no plug on the rear cover.
In a E350 chassis It is most likely a Sterling 10.5 with either a 9.75 gear set or a 10.5 gear set.
If a E450 most likely a Dana 80 which is about 11 inch gear set.

Thanks all, that is why I posted a pic of the axle tag, do I need to get a better image of the tag to truly ID it? It would be just terrible if a gear swap went against programing. It is an 04 E450.

What are you towing? I can't tell my CR-V is back there. I would look at the 5 Star web site.

It is an E350, sprung to an E450 work van filled with tools, (will still be working), about 7200 now, will try to trim it under 6000, hence SMI real time brakes.

I would be careful about how much you try to tow. I bet you are only rated to about 5000 lbs regardless of the hitch (I see the 10,000 hitch) what is your combined weight rating? The problem is the frame may not be strong enough to handle the extra stress.
