Aquahot Insulation

Hi folks!

I'm currently in the process of rebuilding my Aquahot system after a leak (boiler fluid). you can see all the shenanigans in my maintenance thread here:

https://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/200...-543635-5.html

I have it all torn down to the boiler tank itself and it's currently sitting with a dose of CLR and water in the tank to try and get all the junk out of the inside. I haven't updated that thread yet, but suffice to say I had the brown sludge inside. I rinsed it all out until the water ran mostly clear and then dumped it in. While I'm letting it sit and do it's thing, my attention turned to the insulation, which got sort of torn up and is certainly soaked in boiler fluid from the leak and removal from the coach, which wasn't fun. I did a search and came up with insulation from Aquahot, link here:

https://secure.aquahot.com/ProductInfo/MSE-450-005.aspx

Comparing the pictures of the kit and my insulation, they don't match. Close, but not the same. I think I can make most of it fit, with the exception of the front, which has the most holes. Anyone ever replace theirs, and if so any sources for the older models? Mine is a 450-DE1 (2007).

Thanks in advance!

If AH no longer makes a kit for your model, I can't imagine anyone does.

I could swear the insulation in mine has black kind of fabric not aluminized. I have seen similar , lining/insulating the inside of large HVAC ducts at work. Not sure if that helps but possibly could source both types at HVAC supply.

Interestingly enough, my folks neighbor is a union insulator, as is his son. He can get just about any type of insulation there is out there, so I'll shoot him some pictures and see what he comes up with. Once I figure out what will replace it, I'll update, hopefully with a source.

Surprising the AH insulation kit is not that bad of price for AH parts. But not if it doesn't fit and you have to spend time cutting and patching it up.
The silver material is same as what they use on outside of ducting and units installed in unheated locations.Im sure you know it's more of a stiffer/dense material than the rolls. The box will get warm a headliner glue would be better than reg. contact cement for heat. He may be able to hook you up with something.
A snap off box cutter extended is best to cut it, thin blade one for curves holes. The fiber grid.can make hard to cut nice.

As luck would have it, the neighbor had several large sheets in his garage that are thicker, but close enough to use. I'll likely have to peel some off to thin it down a bit, but it is likely close enough. Once I go pick them up, I'll know more.

For round holes you can cut through the foil and start hole with compass and exacto knife as the pencil and finish with hole saw by hand.

Good idea! That thought crossed my mind, but the last thing I want to do is tear up the new stuff. I'll give it a try though.

Was able to get out and make the trade. Several larger sheets of the insulation for 2 30 packs of Natti Lite. Fair I'd say.

It's not quite as stiff as the OE insulation, and I haven't set the box on it yet to see how much it compresses vs the OEM, but it's awful close. Certainly close in thickness. Overall, not terrible to cut with the breakoff razor blades. I didn't end up using a hole saw on it and the holes turned out fairly good. As I get farther along, updates will be in my overall thread.

Looks great. First reading I was like what's Nati-lite some insulation or sound deadening lol.
