Are tire covers really necessary?

I'm sure this topic has been discussed before but I could not find any threads when I searched this forum.

I'm wondering if tire covers are really necessary. We're full-timers but we are parked in one place for up to 4 months at a time -- summers near Seattle and winters in Arizona. Before I invest in some I'd like to be assured they are really essential.

Also, what about using a UV tire protection spray? That would certainly take up less valueable storage space.

I think they extend the life of the tire if the coach sits outside all the time.

Only to ensure the continuing profitability of tyre cover manufacturers and sellers.

I keep mine covered. I figure if the covers buy me a couple more years of tire life, they are worth it.

Liquid UV protection will help but the physical barrier of a cover will provide better protection. The unknown with liquids is how long will it last and how often will you need to reapply? Being stationary for four months at a time I would go with covers. Install and not worry about it until it comes time to leave.

My Navigator found covers with a bungee cord strap that goes around the back of the tire so the wind can't blow the cover off.

Only necessary if you want your tires to last longer.

Are tire covers really necessary?

If sitting for a month or more I use covers. Sitting in the sun not moving is probably the worst situation. Rolling tires flex and work the tire makeup Since replacement tires are accepted at 7 years I don't believe that's enough time to cause serious damage. If your trying to go 10 then maybe ...
the last "7 year "tires on another coach I had , when removed were like new inside and out with great tread ... I'm sure the dealer resold them to somebody , felt bad doing $$$$. it and in Review I might do differently.
I didn't use covers on the prior MH but I'm from the NW and didn't have the baking sun of the south.

would many people pay more, or not ask to discount price, when buying a used motorhome with 7 year old tires if they were told the tires had been covered.

I would not,

For the first time in 40 years I bought a set. Not expensive. Living in Florida the shiny wheels get battered and the rears actually hold a pool of water thus making an ugly spotted area. I like shiny wheels but fighting the weather here is just a pain. Pulling the covers off after four months and finding them fresh and shiny was nice.

303 works well on the tires.

In. Stead of being able to look at nice shiny wheels and tires you can look at bland wheel covers that never fit right. Lol . If tires have a life of 7to 10 years why cover them. Do you cover the tires on your car? Have you ever seen covers on anything other than an rv?

Based on info provided, a good investment. Wash tires often, and cover when not moving for a while. Best not to use any chemicals on tires.

I have the covers. Came with the purchase of the 5er. PO used them but still replaced the tires at 7 years. GY sales told me "if it makes you feel good use them" I have never bothered.

I have never used tire covers, I winter in AZ/TX and summer north of there mostly in the NW.
I use 303 exclusively about every 4-5 weeks. I mostly sit in one place for extended periods. Just replaced 7 yo tires and the comment was these look nearly brand new no cracks at all.

Why waste time, effort and money on covers?

MOST things aren't necessary, but many folks use items they feel are beneficial, though it's all debatable.
