On second thought, I don't even believe we're born equal (long story).
And, on the comment about the "snobs" NOT being campers. That's right, we may not call them snobs, but they're humans. Most of them tend to follow the BOF persuasion. Like me, we quit being campers ever since our youngest wanted to go her own way. I don't know which came first, we wanted to quit or she did. However, the luxury and convenience of traveling in our ole 40 ft diesel pusher, is "THE ONLY WAY TO GO". I love to drive my Dutch Star. Not so much because it's a Dutch Star, but it's the only large diesel pusher that I have. Wish I had a 3 year old Newell, that I had bought NEW.

They pull in, slides out, hook up and disappear inside, never to be seen again. They have no interest in camping, I think they're just traveling.
Folks might be getting judged on one or a few nights - when they spend 365 days per year in that rig. It’s not practical to sit outside every single night or all evening long 365 days per year. Sometimes we have to do laundry, taxes, banking, reservations, cooking, cleaning, etc. Sometimes we can sit outside & socialize a bit, but not always. Anyway, they may be perfectly nice, just busy, or ill, or preoccupied, or ...

Although there do seem to be a few campers/RVers who pre-judge others, I think it’s a lower percentage than in the non-camping world.

Hell we is tired raised 4 sons and a daughter have 10 grands and 1 great ... When my children were home we tent camped allover the Ozarks for weeks at a time rain or shine tents and tarps... That was good times .. About 4 years ago we decided we might like to try a class A MH but we decided we'd buy a used one and try it for a while first. Well we like it and it turned out its fun to drive gets great mileage and perfect size for us two..We use it to travel and probably will never fultime rv. So now we are just hiding from the kids .. Not enough time to be upset at what we look like to someone who doesn't know us ..we just come and go. WE are blessed .

I have a 40' DP, but I also tent camp during the winter. My sons and I always sleep outside on the coldest day of the year, our record is 13 below zero. I feel I am qualified to put this whole debate to rest. I propose I tent camp in February, but I will park my MH in the site next to my tent, start the generator and then report back on how much I hate the J#@ss next to me?

I think we are all more the same than we are different, and sometimes we really are the same.

When I hammock camp I am usually at the fire ring because that is where the kitchen is. When we tent camped we lived outside because that was where the kitchen was. Since we bought our first MH we are inside a lot more because that is where the kitchen is. I see a pattern if you don't... ;-)

Not saying we are never outside but we don't live for the campfire or need to eat at the picnic table. Sometimes we do both but we have the MH because it's more convenient to use those facilities in place. Same for sitting out. If we are at home we probably pull out a few chairs and enjoy the weather. We are just as likely to be off in the towed looking around the area we are in. If the weather is not nice it's also not as enjoyable as being inside so we act accordingly.

Yes there are some that seem to have a chip on their shoulder and seem to want to look down their noses at others. This can be based on RV type, car type, boat size, home size or any other falsely perceived sense of whatever.

Those that behave in a manner as to judge others by possessions are simply insecure and miserable. Can you imagine going through life comparing material things with everyone around you all the time? That would be miserable for me, and exhausting. Not to mention an acute character flaw that would lead to a shallow group left to hangout with.

So I see at as their loss. Imagine all people and experiences missed in life by these poor souls. I say to those with their noses in the air (see picture).

Well said raineman. That quote you provided is also very good. What I take from the quote is that confidence, (not to be confused with arrogance), is to realize you are a one of a kind. As we ALL are, right?

There may be some "snobbish" association with higher end coaches, as in maybe half million dollar coaches and above but, again, it's sometimes a hit or miss. A tiny story. We were camped in Grizzly RV park just outside of West Yellowstone and, while sitting and relaxing by our motor home, we noticed a large string of motorhomes all entering the park at one time.

The all happened to be FORETRAVELs. There were about 15-20 of them or more. They had an escort and guards to actually stop any vehicular traffic inside the park, where they might be heading down to their spots. The wife and I thought, wow, never seen this kind-a thing before.

Later, after all was settled in and down, we were riding our bicycles around the park and came up their "settlement". Some of them were sitting in a ring BSing when we rode by slowly. Since their coaches all looked like they just came out of the factory, I commented on how nice they looked to the general crowd.

NOT ONE OF THEM would acknowledge my comment. Now, I didn't interrupt a presidential debate here, I did not interrupt a critical life saving operation, I simply commented to a group of folks, sitting in circle, that there was/is a nice bunch of coaches. My wife and I did not exist based on the reactions of that crowd.

But, we have encountered many folks in Walmart parking lots. And no, there was no hierarchy as to the order in which Class As or Cs or any other types pulled in for the night. They were mixed all over the place. As the wife and I walked by many of them, each and every person that was out and relaxing was outstandingly friendly and courteous. While we don't make it a habit to use Walmart, we've done it on occasion. There have been Bluebirds, Newells, Jaycos, Winnebagos, Bounders, and all kinds of motor homes and the people seem to be very friendly.

Scott
Here's a thought. Two people are riding around on bicycles. Several people are siting in a circle at a campsite. A comment is made by one of the riders. Those in the circle continue their conversation. Maybe those in the circle thought the riders were talking between themselves, not trying to engage in conversation with them.

All this talk about stuck up people reminds me of being at a business conference at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas a few years back. For those that have not been to the Atlantis resort it is a place frequented by celebrities where they can walk around with us humble people that can only afford a few hundred dollar per night hotel rooms, and snack bars where the cheapest thing on the menu is $10.

It was a meeting of a buying group my family's business belonged to, we were one of the smaller lower sales volume members. One day I am walking along from the hotel to the conference center, making small talk with another group member by the name of Bill, who was a nice guy, always asking how things were going, etc., he also owned one of the largest distributors in our buying group. As we were walking along some likely self important VIP walks in with his security entourage from the marina area, blocking off the hallway so that this guy could slowly walk across to the elevator, blocking everyone else as he went. I have no idea who the guy was, he was probably in his 30's with fancy styled hair, and expensive clothes, so likely a celebrity of some type, maybe he really needed the 4 or 5 security goons, and there was a valid threat, I don't know. Anyway Bill and I continued our talk about the conference presentations, hotel, etc., mildly annoyed about the interruption as it was a 10+ minute walk to the conference center.

On a side note Bill sold his business to one of the big name distributors a few months after that for a bit over $900 million.

Now, that's something I can see happening. I mind my own business. Unless someone is speaking to me directly, I have a habit of not paying much attention. It's happened before... "you were standing right there and could hear us". 'Sorry, you were talking to Billy, Joe, and Bob when you walked in. It was a private conversation and I tuned it out.' I'm not knocking anyone or being snobby. I don't like nosy busy-bodies and gossip, so I shy away from the behavior.

At the same time, I like helping people and volunteering. It's not a anti-social thing.

This is an interesting thread.
Hanging outside at the KOA in Salt Lake City last year, a brand new Newell (1.7m list price) pulled in next to us (2002 American Eagle). I had a beer in my hand and the guy started hooking up. We started talking, he offered me a beer and a tour. Super friendly, no attitude farmer from the mid west.

I don’t judge anyone nor do I respect anyone any different by what the own or rent. I have learned that lesson in the past.

Our first real trip in our 2007 South Wind years ago, DW booked us a week in a nice Class A only resort. The next morning while sitting behind the MH drinking coffee, four Liberty Coaches pulled in and parked on each side and behind me, over 10 million dollars worth of dreams. We all ended up either grilling or having dinner together the remainder of our stay and a couple of us even kept in touch for years after. Can't judge a person by the price of there RV.
