Awning Maintenance Question

Maybe in hindsight we should have used an awning cleaner on our just cleaned awning, but we wiped it with Mr. Clean and sprayed/wiped Tilex where there was mildew. Wondering if we should treat it now with a conditioner and/or waterproofer.

One dealer said it shouldn't need waterproofing and another said they have too many good cleaners to recommend one, but nothing about protection.

Only thing I've used is 'Awesome' from the Dollar store, diluted with water, in a garden sprayer........wet the top side down real good and while wet, roll it up and let set 15 minutes or so, then open it up andrince both sides with a hose.....let dry.....if it get rained on, when camping or traveling, I open it up and let dry when I get home....no mildew..

You need to know what fabric you have as what you need to do will depend greatly on what the awning fabric is. My Carefree awnings are woven acrylic fabric with alumaguard shields. I have never put anything on them to treat or protect them. I have rolled them up wet a number of times, trying to unroll them later to let them dry out but not always getting it done. They are 16 years old, have been used extensively, and still look great ... coach has 116k miles on it. The only awning maintenance is that the stitching has been redone in the window awnings and the arms replaced on the patio awning.
