Besides one being a Chevy and the other a Ford
what basic difference is there between the Chevy V-8 4500 and the Ford V-10 Triton F-450?
Besides the obvious, (8 cyl vs 10cyl)
Horse power?
reliablity?
torque?
is an 8 banger better or is the 10 better? or Im I asking the wrong questions
I see a few Coachman Concords with a chevy V-8. I was wondering the transmissions were different is one more reliable than the other?

First off I don’t know what s chev 4500 is .
This well mostly turn into a pissing match , Chevy guys well Point out all the Ford problems, & vs versa.
A lot of it is personal preference . I’m assuming the Chevy v8 you speak of is the 8.1. It’s known to be a reliable engine , but it has been out of production ion for many years .
The Ford V10 is also known to be a good engine , the earlier ones had some spark plug issues .

stepside454 is right about pissing matches. Compare one make to another and you'll start the next war.
That said, if the 4500 is this one?

It's a 6.0L Vortec V8 and the latest specs I could find on one suggest it's close to the Ford Triton V10 in horsepower, but it's about 100lb/ft less torque than the V10, if memory of the V10 HP/torque specs serves.

The one answer that no one can claim is untrue:

yes, I apologize. After posting the question I thought, this is probably not going to go well
anyway. I was looking at the Coachman Concord 300DS and it had a Chevy 6.0L V8 on a 4500 chassie. All the other Concords had the Ford V10? and all I could find was technical stuff that went over my head.
I was wondering if the transmission was geared different with the V8? I also noticed the tow weight was 1500lb less than the V10? would that be because of the torque.

Yes, and probably chassis (frame) strength, and braking capability, are the main ones.

I agree, both are good engines, both had/have their quirks. It's like the Cummins or Caterpillar question for diesel pushers, same for frame brand. I would not the engine or frame brand deter me from buying the RV that suits both of us.

The 6.0 is a fantastic engine , but I think the Ford v 10 is much better suited for an RV

The chevy 4500 rides much smoother than the E450. I have driven both and the E350. The E450 is harsh in my opinion and you can find threads on harsh ride E450. The chevy 4500 very soft almost to soft. The E350 about perfect and our road tests were on a 25-26ft coaches, the bigger the coach will change the ride. Test drive them please and you will see difference.

Outside of the engine compartment, the cab space is very different between the two. Try on the Ford and the Chevy to see if you have an issue. I find driver's side space on my Ford to be "snug" but I'm only 5' 9" so I fit OK.

If you are considering a coach longer than 26’, the Ford is your best bet. Smaller Class C is perfect for the Chevy. Towing capacity is higher for the Ford, if that is an issue.
