Broken Propane Gauge

The clips on my propane gauge dry cracked and gauge fell off. I ordered a new Manchester LP Tank Gauge and replaced it. Level indicator on control panel reads 100%. has been for last year. I crawled under and reversed wiring thinking that may work. No, gauge inside still at 100%. gauge on tank shows between 1/2 and 3/4 level. could I have placed gauge on tank wrong? Or did I get a faulty gauge. Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Unsnap the gauge and place it where it matches the tank level then snap it on there.

The dial gauge on our tank never makes it to the full mark and usually only shows a bit over 3/4 after it's filled. May be wrong but I figured this is because the tank never gets filled past 80% of its capacity. However, the level indicator inside will show full when the test button is pushed until the tank level drops a bit. Again, I kinda figured this was because the 80% in the tank was as full as it should ever get.

Having said that, it doesn't seem right that the inside level indicator on the OP's shows 100% with only a half full tank. Never looked into it but I wonder if there is any thing that can be calibrated?

Edited to add: What twinboat stated is probably the way to calibrate.
