Carefree Awning Filler Coming Out

The insert at the awning seam is coming out. This is the long tube (rubber rope?)that helps hold the fabric tight at the lower roller.

Previously I got it pushed back in to within one inch. The last time it could only be pushed back in to six inches - probably since it was pinched by my tool. It is now out at least twelve inches and seems to have gotten longer while we have just been stationary and not closing and opening the shade.

I had no luck this time in getting it back in even though the rough edges were smoothed and silicone spray was used.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Take the pressure off the awning, work as much of the welt cord back inside the seam as you can and use a small screw into the seam track to hold the seam and welt cord in place.
