CB Radio Channel for RVers

Just bought a CB for our motorhome and wondered if there might be a channel favored by RVers. Trucker channel is great, but quite loud & busy.

Great question. I usually leave mine turned down low on ch 19, lots of chatter, and I turn it up if I see traffic or need info about truck stops. I can’t remember the last time I changed the channel.

According to www.wearecb.com, channel 13 is commonly used for Marine/RV. So how many on IRV2 monitor/use channel 13?

We don't use one but PO of our last MH had lettered on the rear "we monitor Ch 13"
Don't know if it was strictly a way tp notify him of a problem or more to it?

I don't mean to hijack this thread but your questions and answers led me to thinking about my situation.

My MH came with an antenna but no CB. I had a CB in the garage hooked it up and it did not work when we went from Ohio to Texas. Someone told me that the antenna is not grounded and that's why it didn't work. I have a Fleetwood Bounder and the antenna that came with it is mounted to the coach just above the driver's door. There is no grounding point there I know for sure.

What do others do to get an antenna grounded on a mostly composite RV body?

Thanks

I have tried channel 13 for years and have spoken to only one other RVer.
I've sorta given up on it. It was a good idea, it just never caught on. Maybe it's the limited number of RVers and the limited range of CB radios. The few times I turn my CB on it's usually channel 19, the trucker channel. If I'm travelling with another RVer we just pick a channel and use it.

Look into Firestick antennas. They are NGP antennas .... no ground plane.

A no ground plane CB Antenna is a CB antenna that doesn't require a ground plane (large metal surface under it) to operate. Ground Plane antennas are specially designed to work on fiberglass vehicles and boats.

If the radio has a meter you need to look at it when transmitting with a grounded antenna . It is possible to burn out the "finals" in the CB if you repeatedly tried to key the mike w/o a properly hooked up antenna . Needle should move to the right .
To the OP , been running a CB since 1976 , never heard about 13 being for RVers . 1 is called the Harley or party channel , 9 for emergency ,19 for hiway info , which translates into the trucker channel

I can't even get anybody to return a wave when meeting a MH on the road.
What makes anybody think that they would answer the radio?

I-5 ch-17 (15 over the "vine") 19 is universal. 13 or 15 oversize load escort/trucker, The "Old" trucker channel was 10, but moved to 19 to put some distance from CH-9 emergencies..
Old CB's only had 23 channels.

I leave mine on 19 and just usually ignore it most of the time. Handy to chat with friends when on the road, then I switch to another channel. Maybe we'll start going to 13.
Happy Glamping.

I leave mine on 19 unless I'm following or being followed by another RV, then I switch over to 13. I haven't heard anything on 13. . . ever.

I leave mine on scan to monitor all channels but hardly ever hear anything. When I unhook my Jeep and go off-roading with friends we just pick a channel to use for our off-road trip.
