But you don't need a CDL and do not need to stop at the scales.

that's so they can charge more to the people here, twice the reg tax, commercial rate tax, and weight tax.
as the peps in sac want more cash so they can build the train to nowhere.

Nope, not a CDL, but the regular Class C is only good to 26,000.

Just look at the link that Jean n Steve posted. There are other web sites that post what States require a CDL. Controversial at least.
Remember that the Federal Government's definition is that any vehicle over 26,000 pounds is a commercial vehicle.
The only precise way to see if you need a CDL, or a special license, is to look at YOUR state's laws.

Two answers; if you are receiving remuneration/compensation for driving, the answer is YES.
If you do not receive remuneration/compensation for driving the answer is NO.

Just because your state says a CDL is not required under the CDL section, does not mean that no other special license is not required. Only says you do not need a CDL. You do not need a CDL to operate a motorcycle, but I bet every state requires a special license.
Do not read the CDL section of your laws, and stop there.

As Wayne has said very succinctly, you have to check your state laws. Just because a state says a CDL is not required does not mean you don't need special license. Texas CDL law says a recreational vehicle is exempt from a commercial license in one part of the law, but in another it specifies that any vehicle over 26,000lbs requires a Non Commercial Class B or A license depending on the weight being towed.
