Chassis Battery

Chassis battery keeps draining. I have had it checked, battery is good. Put it in fully charged then in a few days it is dead. House are good. Can't figure out what is draining it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi gordsett,
How was the battery checked? Load test, voltage check? Using a "knife" type disconnect switch is one inexpensive way of disconnecting the battery and eliminating the drain on the battery. If you are looking to find the drain, posting this question in the Winnebago Owner's forum here on iRV2 might get you others who have the same coach as you have to respond. The forum is at Winnebago Industries Owner's Forum - iRV2 Forums

To hunt for the drain:
1. Make sure everything is turned off.
2. Connect a meter to the positive side of the battery and measure the battery drain (AMP measurement).
3. Pull one fuse at a time until the drain goes away. That isolates the circuit. Now one will need to find what on that circuit is causing the drain.

If this is something that has recently appeared, gut feel says it is the battery. If not done already, have a load test done on the battery.

Does it go dead while plugged in to shore power, while driving or both? I just went through this on my coach but I'm not sure how Winnebago handles DC Power so a little more info might help.

In my case it all started with a broken Ignition wire to the Alternator that shorted out and blew a fuse. Finding that fuse was a major challenge.
During my search, I found a wire had fallen off the BIRD Isolator Relay which was resulting in the chassis battery not charging while plugged in to shore power. Thought that was the end but no.
Ended up with a new Alternator and then finally located the blown fuse in a fuse block I didn't know existed.
Took a while to zero in but now all is well.

A couple days sounds like a problem or tired batteries. A couple of weeks sounds like the normal loads on modern vehicles with a bunch of electronics that never turn off. The only answers for long term storage are a disconnect switch or a trickle charger.
