I think our 1999 Discovery was in a transition period going from straight line graphics to swirls. It has some of each lol !!!

I think it's funny how most of the "early" swirls just look dumb. Some of the newer ones are almost artistic. Some. I saw a Monaco the other that was low key black, gold, brown colors and then had a big swatch of bright red across all of it. Too me aback at first but the more I looked the better it looked. Not up my alley at all, but it was fine looking paint job and a good looking coach.
I'm kind of stuck on striping. Probably makes me old fashioned.

It’s all personal preference no decals on mine all paint. It’s all about what sells not everyone like a plain white Motorhome.

Swirls, loops and varying colors break up the monotony of a large wall. I personally like it. It may catch people's eye possibly avoiding accidents.
Even seen a plain white coach, very boring.

Agree with Shootist. The swirl paint schemes adds some character to what would be a boring "block on wheels" moving down the road. I also agree with others that the using a combination of very bold / white colors with dark colors in the swirl paint scheme can be a bit dizzying.

The minimal swirl, single zig-zag paint scheme with darker with somewhat lighter colors in the same color palette is what attracted the wife and me to our current coach.

You have to break up the big surface with somthing. It's worked for well over 20 years. I bet you 99% of campers for the past 20 have it. Most of use a camper with it.

Just do it.

Everyone has different tastes. When it comes to my cars, I strip off all of the badging, as I'm a minimalist. I like a clean look. When it comes to a large RV, it would be very boring with just one color and no accents.

The schemes you see now, tell you that it's a newer coach. Unfortunately, when you see a two tone paint job, it dates the coach. This will always be the way as paint work progresses through the years.

I couldn't afford to write a check for a spanking new Newell, ....ended up settling for a Dutch Star. As I drive along I look at the people looking at me. And, I think,....I betcha they wish they had some of these beautiful-swirly painted-on things on their 1952 Chevy panel truck. Now that I'm retired, I don't look down on people as much as I use to.

It also makes it easier to find a complementing color (out of the four that they used) for your toad!

They now have giant printing machines that can pass down the side of a large wall and paint anything you want. It won't be long now before you can custom design your own RV paint and lay it on in an afternoon. Wednesday of that you won't need swirls anymore. What would you put on there?
