Coach Batteries Discharge

My friend has a 2006 Gulf Stream Independence model #8357 and his coach batteries discharge while the motorhome is in storage. He turns the power cutoff switch off, which I believe is supposed to isolate the batteries from the power or fuse panel. The living room slide, was also out slightly (about 3"), but I believe this is a valve problem on the pump, not related to the battery issue.

To confirm that the switch is cutting off everything, have him remove the ground cables and see if they still discharge.

If they do, bad batteries. If not, something is not switching off.

If he has an inverter/charger, they often don't run thru the battery disconnect switchs.

Most RV's with battery cutoff switches near the entry door do not disconnect everything. House batteries may last 1 to 3 weeks before needing a full clean 14 hour charge. Recharge before battery terminal voltage drops below 12.4 volts.

For long term storage, disconnect the negative terminal on the battery bank. (If he has a Magnum inverter, he may need to disconnect the positive first. See Magnum instruction manual.)

A battery bank disconnected at the terminals may last 6 months. Recharge a full 14 hours before terminal voltage drops below 12.4 volts.

A battery disconnect switch can be installed next to the battery to make disconnecting easy.

I had the same problem. Couldnt find where is what draining from. But a 4 amp trickle charger solved the problem. Stays fully charged.

I recently had a discharge problem with my house batteries I have a progressive Dynamics 9180 converter and when I added the charge pending to it that caused it to start draining the batteries whenever the motorhome set in two days they were dead

To close out the thread... the coach batteries were bad. After we replaced them, and flipped the cutoff switch, there appeared no drain on the batteries. I think the old batteries were so bad (water/acid levels were severely low) they began to discharge as soon as the converter was turned off (unplugged from shore power).
