Commercial air ride seat, like in an 18 wheeler.

My GF is physically challenged with a few back surgeries. Riding in the car is sometimes difficult for her as hitting bumps can be painful. Has anyone tried installing an air ride seat suspension in their coach ?

This has been discussed several times...nobody did it after getting the price, that I have read

Expect to pay about $3,000 for the seat and suspension base (new) ...Plus install.

But...that could be mitigated with:
*A purchase of used at a dismantler. And a new cover to match the RV would probably be desired.
*Mount your current seat to an air suspension base:
https://www.bostromseating.com/en-us...ts/suspensions

Might be worth it for a special need passenger.
But realize, you will probably loose the spin-around function.

Best luck

I did try searching but didn't come up with anything so I appreciate the link. In my GFs condition the money really isn't an issue compared to the comfort. However it sure would limit me to only doing her's where before I had thought of doing both.

I have commercial air ride seats in my Super C and can confirm they really make the hard shocks much more comfortable. They are air pressure adjustable for a persons weight and comfort preference. Mine also swivel. The air base is a separate item from the seat itself so could probably be used with different seats, maybe even your existing seats.

I don’t have a Class A, and it’s been a really long time since my OTR driving days, but my favorite seats had just a simple push/pull air valve to adjust ride height. Body weight is automatically accounted for, as a heavier person would just air it up more for the same ride height. An adjustable shock absorber would probably be nice, but I’m pretty sure all the seats I’ve been in had worn out shocks and an extra glassy smooth ride.

I did drive a Mack R600 for a short while that must have had a bad shock, as the seat actually launched me into the air when I hit a dip in the highway just west of the George Washington Bridge in NJ in the late 70’s. I knew it was there, but didn’t hang on, and landed on the shift levers. At speed. No seat belt. Not good, but no crash, so there’s that.

All those seats had the fore/aft isolator release, which I don’t think would be of any value in a coach, as they don’t have ‘cabs’ like a tractor does, many of which rotate and slam the seat back into your back on bumps. The seats marketed for buses don’t have the isolator slides, which makes sense. Probably a little less money, too.

I would think an air seat suspension in a soft riding coach would be like riding on clouds.

I worked at National Seating for a couple of years, around the year 2000. At the time they had an old seat that was self contained so that the height adjustment was with a hand pump to raise the seat and a depression to lower the seat. These were very popular with aftermarket installations and were in demand and had a following of suppliers who refurbished them.

Found one: https://www.seat-specialists.com/pro...hand-pump.html

Contacted National Seating about the seat. They apparently still make them and can match your requirements. The options include seat back height, fabric colors and type, and arm rests. Top end would be leather which looks really nice, especially if your budget can handle it.

Good luck....

And if you can find one with the fore & aft "isolation option" would be a plus to eliminate the fore & aft "chugging motion".

Before I would go with $3k work of air ride seats I would try to find an upholsterer who knows their way around orthopedics. There are some good foams out there that in the right hands might cure your problem.

I found this guy during a quick search.

With luck this place might have what you seek: https://rvfurniture.visonerv.com/cgi-bin/welcome.pl?
This is a large RV parts yard in KY, they might have one or know a source for used air-ride seats.
