Compressor question
Hi,
Is a specific type of compressor needed to blow out water. Can I use my RV Viair Tire compressor?
In the past I have just used anti freeze.
Thanks,

I am not sure that your compressor has enough volume. I use a 150# pancake compressor. I open a coldvfaucet in the rv, connect air line ti blowout plug, go back into rv and open another faucet, close first and continue around to all the faucets. I then go around to all the hot with water heater on bypass. I usually have to do the all the faucets 3 to 4 times. Don’t forget to open low point drains sometime during this process. I remove drain plug from water heater and flush out with a small tube adapter for hose connection.
The major points are that I have more volume, higher pressure, never have all faucets closed at the same time. This is the process I have used for about 10 years on 3 different vehicles.

Volume of air is the big thing when blowing out an RV water system , what's the duty cycle of the tire compressor , it might have to run for 1/2 to 3/4 hour.
Remember , blowing the lines won't protect the 12 volt water pump, you need to disconnect the inlet , and blow that line back to the fresh tank, and either run the pump dry , and remove and drain the inlet screen housing or take the pump out of the RV and store where it can't freeze. If it gets really cold where you live , prefer to remove pump.

I've got a little inflator that I use and let it run for a while.
I usually just run the water pump for a while, maybe 10 or 15 minutes after the fresh tank is drained to dry it out. I live in Ontario, it does get cold here, and have never had a problem, as long as all the lines, valves, and faucets are left open for freeze expansion, well in advance of the first freeze. I guess the lines have usually dried out by then after I've aired them all out.

We use 22gal 4CFM HF compressor, setting the regulator to 50psi. It does an excellent job, We do not use the pink stuff on the fresh water at all, just the traps, but we do remove the fresh water pump when we winterize.

I think my compressor has a whopping 1.5 gallon air tank - seems to work fine. Drain the fresh water tank, open low point drains, run pump dry. close stuff up, HWH in bypass mode, open 1 faucet at a time, run air thru. when no more water comes out of anything, I DO add the NON-ethanol pink stuff until it comes out the faucets. Maybe 15 years doing it this way - so far so good...

Good point on the oil free compressor! Although I use an oiled compressor, I just don't let the DW know that.
