You want it short enough that it can't sweep the road, flinging up rocks and debris you installed it to prevent damaging your Toad. If you have a DP with air suspension, I'd want it just shy of the ground with bags deflated.

Rigger16-

Posts commonly advise a rear flap ground clearance of 4 to 6 inches minimum at ride height. For coaches without an active ride-height maintenance system, the coach should be loaded to the :normal" or "max" values- take your pick.

A number of iRV2 folks have gotten rid of their real flaps altogether.

Here is a link to a Google search of iRV2 posts with the terms "rear," "flap" and "eight" in them. Searching posts is the best way to get quick answers to common questions. Here is the form of the Google search I used:

"rear" "flap" "height" site:irv2.com

I think 6" is the commonly recommended height!

There was a discussion of this here:

http://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/mud-...-306146-4.html

The conclusion if I remember correctly was the have the flap no lower than 6". Checked mine and it is about 6-1/2" from ground at ride height.

I keep mine as high as it will go...which clears normal roads, but it still drags once in a while when parking. I have eye bolts in each lower corner, with chain hanging down, so I can raise it when backing into my parking garage.

Many including me took full width flap off and installed a little wider than tire width flaps behind drive tires. If DP then placed an expanded metal grate to prevent road debris from hitting the radiator.

After I had the windshield broken and 41 rocks setting on the wiper blades shelf on our toad I removed it and will never put it back. The toad stays cleaner as does the engine.
And yes I had it hung up high.

good luck

The instructions for UltraGuard say "at least 4" off the ground" when fully loaded . Rock Solid is similar, and I think other solid-type brands as well. The "hula skirt" types are less likely to kick up stuff (or to stop flying debris), so height is less of a concern.

Well which is it? You say 19 years of RVing, have had no flap. Then you say will never use a full flap again?

Welcome to iRV2!
I had an AdFlap and chips on the toad.
Now, no AdFlap and no chips.
Some may have brand loyalty or simply enjoy the bling effect of an AdFlap, and will need a protector.

IMHO It is more important to mount the flap 3' to 4' from the back of the MH and 4"to6" of the ground. The high end MH's mount it on the very back for advetising there name.
