Courtesy light bulb replacement.

Hi guys, I have a ITC RV courtesy festoon light in about five places in my coach. It uses 395 bulbs, but they are so hot they blister my finger if I accidentally touch them and I'm afraid they'll melt the housing if left on for a Ling amount of time. Has anybody tried to replace them with LEDs? The LEDs that I found seem to be thicker then the one currently in place. Any help is appreciated. If you replaced it with another type of bulb please let me know the type or number.Click image for larger version

DoC808,
Yep, we've got the same festoon fixture "Isle" lights. And yep, those little boogers do get real hot. I replaced mine with LEDs waaaaaaaay back when we got the coach, about 7+ years ago. It's an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330HP CAT. The LEDs I used came from:

www.superbrightleds.com

And, they have been an outstanding company to deal with. All I did was, take the original festoon bulbs out, measure them in all directions and, get onto their site and look up the LED festoons that had the same measurements. I'll have to dig around in my files 'cause I have a picture or two of all the bulbs purchased for the interior and some compartment bulbs too. Seems like I had about a dozen different types of bases and bulbs to purchase.

I'll see if I can find the pics which, would identify what ones I purchased for your needs.
Scott

P.S. On edit:
In our coach, we had four of those fixtures. One at the entry, just next to the steps as you climb in the coach, two in the middle section (one in the kitchen area and one in the bathroom area) and one next to where you enter the rear bedroom. But, I started goofing around with LED strip lighting a while back and thought, what the heck, let's just replace those center two festoon type fixtures with LED strip lighting. It turned out waaaaaaaay better than I thought it would. Below are pics of the area. The camera, as usual, does not depict the actual lighting array and or, correct brightness. In the pics, they look way too bright but, in reality, they're just right. They light up the footing area only. It's great for night time exursions through the coach to get a drink of water or, if you come in late at night and have some lighting, guiding your way without having monster overhead lights on.

I likewise replaced incandescent courtesy light with LED festoon style. Works great. Superbrightleds is a great company - I have used them several times. For these lamps I just bought a multipack on Amazon similar to what you show initially - cheap but work great. Another good LED supplier is Joe at Cabin Bright.

Are the LEDs that you replace them with a little thicker than the actual one that came originally? The ones I see look too wide. The length matches though

Well Sir, welcome to the world of what sounds like quality LED replacement bulbs, not Chinese ones. I paid quite a bit for all the replacement LED bulbs way back when I did it but, that was 6.5 years ago and, it was also somewhere around 18-20 different bulbs if I recall and, not one of them has failed in the 7 years and 43,000 miles of use.

The replacement LED "bulbs" are wider than the diameter of the original festoon, but not by much. Mine fit just fine. However... the light only comes out 1 side of them, not all the way around like the original. So this means they are a bit directional and need to be places as such. Kick here is they tend to "rol" in their sockets, since they are held by a point on each end. I end up realigning mine a couple times a roadtrip...

Did you swap yours out? If you did can you take a photo?

Hi - here are 2 pics showing my LED replacement for the festoon courtesy light.

I rolled the LED bulb so the chips were visible in 1 photo. It is on in the other shot. ST

In 2016 I purchased a pack of 4 LED replacements from Amazon, $4.99. I can't say how long they will last, for none have failed, and they are on all night every night we are living in our MH. If I had it to do over, I would have bought the other ones from the same supplier that aren't so bright, these reflect off the tile floor and nearly blind me when I get up at night.
These are an exact replacement. If you wish to replace the entire housing with an LED fixture, they are available from most any boating supply store for less than $15.
