All fixed. No need for new
The Tech came out today and put a new capacitor and the unit is running fine. I gave him a hard time about not doing this months ago and he acknowledged my complaint. He did come out quickly when he realized the situation and said that he was not canceling the order because the AC unit is too hard to get and was going to keep it in stock. I think he actually had three other jobs waiting. As to my son’s Fantastic fans, he got notice they should be arriving in a couple days. Life is good.

It's good you finally got it repaired. A lot of tech are really salesman primarily and if they can't sell a new unit may have to do their job and actually repair it. This is true with the sticks & bricks guys also.
That was nearly a $1000 capacitor. I could never trust his work again.

I'm guessing it would have been a lot more than just $1K... with installation, a new unit would be at least $2k.

Unless your ordering specialized parts. I've been ordering some unusual items from Walmart.com. Good prices, fast delivery, only one part cancelled in about 75 items bought.

I have problem with sellers who create a shipping label immediately. Then the part is not handed to the shipper for days or weeks. It is dishonest. eBay and Amazon apparently grade or rate sellers on how quick they "ship".

In post #5 the purchase I tried to make has been refunded. The credit card company said it would take 30 days or more. Not. People who don't answer the phone or anything can't dispute anything, so done and over.
Now I've got another one. An AC compressor I need from eBay. Four days in and no sign the seller is doing anything other than accepting payment. Not even that horrible "shipping label created" thing. (I hate that too).
The old compressor was no fun at all to remove. I kind of need to run the engine for other reasons and can't do it without the belt and compressor in place. I could wait a week but not two or more. So now I get to reinstall the broken compressor so I can run it. And more than likely the upcoming trip will be sans dash AC. Just because they can't get the parts out to me. Great.

Sounds like your tech didn't know what he was doing. I'd check around for another.

I agree. I would have let my son install the capacitor before I called that tech back.
