Cracked Floor Tile Replacement Cost
Hello,
I’ve posted about my cracked Floor tiles before (2020 Entegra Aspire 44R) but now I have a new issue.
My insurance company is willing to pay to have the floor tiles and bathroom wall tiles replaced however they have a “standard price per square foot” for the removal and replacement that no repair shop will touch because the time allocated in their “standard rate” is just way to low. I have eight 7.5” x 48” floor tiles and three 16” x 40” shower tiles that need to be replaced. I’m a former home builder and tile setter so I understand the time required to get this job done without damaging adjacent tiles. Total allotted time to remove and replace as well as regrout the 11 tiles is 8hrs total. In comparison I have a minor scrape on the underside of the front fiberglass shroud and the insurance company approved 21hrs to make that repair which does include removing and installing a new clear stone guard but from all the repair shops I have talked to no one will touch the job with only 8hrs allotted. I assume there are a bunch of Class A owners out there that have had floor tiles replaced. Is there anyone out there that has their repair invoice and is willing to share it with me so that I can provide the insurance company with some examples of prices others have paid?

Can you get an estimate from Entegra for the tile work?? Might be able to do it with email and pictures or if you have a dealer close you could take it to.
Big question though is what caused the tile to break/crack, is there a structural issue. Will a repair end in the same issue down the road. Is this a common issue in your make/model/year coach.
My coach only used 6" tile and I have ~4-5 cracked. Decided to forgo a repair now, I have spare tile I can use and at some point will tackle it. But for now I "Just Look Up".

I can't imagine doing that job in 8 hours, but insurance flat rate manuals are notorious for being unrealistic. And getting the insurer to override their flat rates is a huge challenge. I've "been there, down that" a few times with about a 33% success ratio. And it's a lot of work on your part.
Good luck!

Ask the insurance company to find someone who will do it at their rate.

Yeah, I’m betting they can find someone but I have to live with the job they do.

Maybe instead of a "repair" shop look for a local tile and bath person. Repair shops here are pushing $200/hour. Home contractors are not getting that kind of money. I am surprised the insurance company is covering this. Maybe take their offer and pay the difference to get it done.

I doubt they will find someone and then will be forced to increase the estimate. Anyone they recommend would certainly be licensed and most likely does good work, or they would have too many complaints to recommend them again.

I've been doing tile work for 50 years. There's no chance, none, that I'd agree to do a job of that magnitude under those limitations. " You can have it fast, but it won't be good" and then you the customer won't be happy, my reputation will suffer and I may not get paid. Otherwise, where are the matching tiles, what if the grout color doesn't match, etc? That being said too let me add, tile requires a monolithic substrate, I own an RV and lay tile, but I'd never lay non-resilient tile in my RV. Observe this Grouch Marx maxim: Anyone who would agree to do that job under those conditions you would'nt want doing that job.

I would let the manufacturer replace the tiles, and accept the most you receive from insurance company. Nobody knows your coach better. Our coach was completely retired last year by Newmar, great job. Good luck!

Entegra will do the job. No price yet. 6 month waiting list to get it scheduled. They want the RV for 7 days. Kinda says it all doesn’t it. 4ft long tiles in a 45ft flexing frame RV with the tile laid directly onto the sub floor OSB makes no sense. Personally we hate the gloss look of the porcelain tile because it is always spotted by the 9lb mini Doberman. The engineered lifetime warranty LVP is looking very good right now.

I like the wood look of laminates. I installed LVP in a kitchen over large tile by using a filler material over the grout. Still looks great.
So I decided to use LVP in the kitchen of the MH but removed the tile to reduce weight.
Turned out to be a lot of work removing the tile.

I've seen some Prevost using real hardwoods including Bamboo. Looks really cool and feels better under bare feet than LVP. My Modular home in Florida I did Pergo Premium. Each board has foam on back. Feels and looks great. Compensated for all the sags and bumps in the sub floor. Plenty of options.

I used Cali Bamboo in the bedroom of my Beaver when I re-did the floors 5 years ago. I went back and forth between cork and bamboo, but couldn't convince myself cork would hold up with the narrow traffic patterns of a non slide RV.
I vacuum daily, sometimes more, and have a dirt catcher mat at the entry to keep the grit down. The bamboo still looks like new, if I do the floors again I think I'd use cork in the bedroom and bamboo from the bath forward.

The first step in any flooring project is leaving some outside in the weather.
Also some LPV does not hold up in cold weather. something to consider when your RV is in storage.
