Def - shortage
In the news are reports about a looming shortage of DEF. In short this is a fertilizer based product and the US imports most of the supply from places like Russia and China. Reports are they are no longer exporting this to us.
Some suppliers are already limiting the amount you can purchase.
Do your own search on the subject.
One more thing that will make travel more expensive and it may affect sales of RV's and trucks.

Carry a couple of empty DEF jugs and refill them at truck stops when you refiling your fuel tank. Truck stops will not run out of DEF.
As is the nature of things, the price will likely keep pace with diesel fuel regardless.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't experienced an issue yet, but I do carry a couple of full 2.5 gallon jugs besides a full DEF tank when I start out. Maybe I should carry a little more.
When I'm home, I have the extra time to look for it. The local Freightliner shops seem to keep plenty in stock.

I'm carrying 4 extra jugs now. Keeping them inside an Air Conditioned TT. Not good to leave them in the heat for long.
I saw on You Tube (so it must be true) that no DEF speed reduced to 5mph is an over reaction. It's not safe and many are changing to power reduction and 50 mph. Check for vehicles software updates.

I would like to see a software update that ties DEF consumption to the vehicle's geographic location. There is no need for DEF in areas that have no NOx pollution. If you drive in Los Angeles then the DEF pump should be working, but if you're in Iowa the pump should be off.

For the first time this week we could not get it at Wal Mart. Next stop we will try again and purchase an extra jug or two.

No surprise. I traveled across the country. Walmart typically sells out the day it arrives. I have been getting Napa brand at auto parts stores.

I was in my local ; Lordco ; Canadian version of Auto Zone; the town where I live is 20,000 people and isolated from BC , with no road in , ferry access only.
Inside the main door 6 pallets full of DEF .
I had to ask at the counter ; why so much there can't be that many users in town : no Dodge dealer , only Ford & GM : Counter guy said , normally that'd be a two year supply , but given what's been happening in the past three months , we expect to be sold out AGAIN in 4/5 weeks .

Just picked up two jugs at Walmart in Elkhart...$14 apiece. Jumped up from $11.
