DEF Survey

I'm trying to get an objective look at the prevalence of DEF head failures. If you have a DEF equipped coach I would appreciate it if you would answer the question above.

Hmm, my rig is approx. 9 yrs old. Never ever had a problem with the DEF or the system.

I don't have an RV and really know nothing. It is my understanding from reading that this DEF head thing is a 2016 and newer problem. Is this not true?

BTW - the poll is a great idea as otherwise all you hear about are the problems. Hope everyone who see the thread votes if it applies to their RV

2016, built November 2015, purchased November 2016. About 25,000 miles and no issues.

The idea of a poll is a good one, but if it's not too late, it may be better to add a requirement that the engine year, or at least the year of the coach, be included in the poll.

As I post, there have been eleven responses. Nine have indicated, "NO," and two have indicated, "YES." However we don't know how many of those "NO" votes came from early DEF engines which are not problematic. Is the current 81% "NO" an accurate picture of the DEF head failure landscape?

The reason why DEF head failures have even come to the forefront in posts on this and other forums, is because of the changes made in them from 2016 on. Without knowing from which year engines these responses are coming, we are left with data that are extremely limited in use.

"arcaguy".....Many don't know that the issue is with 2016 and newer DEF heads. The problem is most often with Shaw sensors on the Spartan and Powerglide chassis.

If you could rework your poll and start over, you should ask that only 2016 models and above answer and give a category of Spartan or other. This way you would get a pretty good account. The CEO of NIRV pulled his records and found that the bulk of replacements are Spartan, I believe it was somewhere around 65% Spartan.

I think if Spartan doesn't fix this soon, it might really put a drag on their sales. I know some have cancelled orders on Spartan chassis.

Look for the post where he may have found a solution. Overheated electronics at a valve.
