Diesel generator & freezing temps
I’m sure there’s a thread and someone can redirect me… We have a 2015 Winnebago view 24M with diesel generator. We attempted to start generator when the temps were in the high teens. After three attempts with the start screen showing “wait,” the screen went dark. The temps are back up however, the screen is still dark and we are unable to start our generator. Could this be a fuse, and where do we locate it? (We are newbies x3months ownership= still learning)

Sounds like the battery used to start the generator isn’t charged enough/end of life to crank it. When cold, the pre heat will engage for a few seconds before the the actual cranking begins. The battery sounds too weak to support both functions.
Try attaching a charger to the gen battery and then crank it. If she starts I would replace the battery.

What your describing is a sudden loss of power to the generator.
Look for a circuit breaker tripped, very close to the batteries, a bad connection in same area and the positive and ground connections at the generator.

Besides above suggestions. High crank amps may have finished off poor battery positive or ground at the generator main cable posts. My genny has cable to a frame ground with slack to allow slide out.

It sounds to me as though the problem is with your One Place generator control, not the generator itself. The dark screen suggests the panel is out and not even attempting to start the genset. As you probably know, the display should show Generator Off as the status and then you can push the Generator Start button to begin the start-up sequence. You haven't got to Square #1 yet.
I don't know where the power to the generator start panel comes from, but Winnebago has excellent wiring diagrams on their website. Find yours diagram and start hunting, or call Winnie Customer Service for advice.

IF ISSUE IS BATTERY AS OTHERS SUGGEST, CRANK MAIN ENGINE, panel display should return in a few minutes, then allow 15-20-minutes charge to coach battery from main to remove (some of) the initial battery drain, THEN (maybe?) you can get GEN to Preheat/crank. Also check/ clean battery connections for best success. Always easier to do PM in WARM weather. BEWARE DEAD/ FROZEN BATTERIES, WEAR EYE PROTECTION, disconnect GROUND/NEG FIRST, and NO sparks.

We took the RV to a RV repair guy for him to set up our small car for towing. (Which he did a great job). We also asked him to look at the gen start panel inside the coach to see if he could find a fuse that went out. End of story, he said the board went out (which was a common problem) & that we would have to replace the board at cost of +/- $1000 plus labor….& that the labor would be extensive due to having to drop the generator. Ugh!

KB61, I recommend doing all the simple stuff in the replies first (KISS method) before allowing a repairman to begin throwing money(yours) at the problem.

Tried both running RV motor more than 20 min as well as charging batteries. Gen start panel still dark. Will call Winnebago next b4 buying new board & paying RV guy $$$ to replace.
