Do you carry an empty fuel

Hi,

Do you carry an empty fuel container? If so what size?

Asking as I saw a thread about someone running our of fuel.

5 gallon is not really get anyone very far, so probably 10 would be needed.

I carry a 5 gallon yellow fuel tank, but doubt I'll ever need it.

I often carry a full 5 gallon sealed can like this, https://www.jerrycan.com

That is for my generator though as often I am out for 2+ weeks where I can not move the trailer.

I have 87 gallons of fuel in my truck. When my 50 gallon aux tank is empty, then it is time to fuel up. Any failure I had to due to fuel, would not likely be solved by a fuel can. I did read that post too.

Where are you going in that Damon that you could not find fuel station and FILL up when needed???

I carried 2 five gallon jerry cans WHEN I use to go 'off road'/'rock crawling' in my Broncos.
Haven't carried any fuel cans otherwise.

Just no real need.....fuel stations are available.
And if mpg is low...top off PRIOR to needing it

Not going anywhere in particular that I cannot fill up, just read somewhere someone mentioned to carry one or two.

Hi - I carry a clean empty 2.5g fuel can in the toad. Sure doesn't add weight! Figure if I ever ran out of fuel in the rig, can take the toad to go fetch more. Benefit of the Sprinter - I get better than 15mpg, so 2.5 gallons should be enough to get me to an exit, etc. Faster than waiting for road service! On return trip from AK did get a 5g container and filled it for the return trip down the Cassiar Highway, since fuel stops were few and far between. Didn't need to use it, but gave me piece of mind. Rode on a hitch-haul rack out back. ST

No, like you mentioned, I don't think that a can of fuel is really enough to do any good with the mileage I get.
I start looking for fuel at just below a half tank, which the way my gauge reads is actually closer to 2/5 tank of usable fuel.
And I don't want to have to deal with fumes in whatever compartment it's carried in, plus the hassle of having to use and refill that tank so that the fuel in it doesn't go bad.

I figure if I run out of gas on my 80 gallon tank, it's my own darned fault for not paying attention. I know how far I can go on a tank of gas, and I always jot down the odometer reading on a fill. So even if the gauge quits working I'll know when it's time to give the old girl a drink.

Agree with Poduvin! My 1/2 tank is a time to empty the bilge, walk around and get a snack. The wife may even slide into the driver's seat.

I could see carrying a can if you are off roading but no other reason.

I've got a couple of the 20L Wavian Jerry cans I keep at the house for the emergency generator and the lawn mower and I keep them treated with Stabil additive, but don't see any reason to carry the extra weight as I alt out with 80 plus gal. We made the decision back a few years ago to shorten and slow down on the daily distance when on a road, and on this past trip, I worked the map so that we could pull into a full service park at roughly the 6 hour mark or less and on one occasion, stayed an extra day just to rest up so roughly, it's a half tank fill up before we stop for the evening.

I carry one or two 5 gal Jerry cans of regular gas for the geny when I'm in boondock mode, otherwise no. Fill up at the 1/2 mark like others.

With a 130 gal fuel tank, I'm pretty sure I'll find a station before I run out !

coincidentally i sold my two 5 gallon blitz containers yesterday on craigslist. i bought those two years before we headed to banff and filled up diesel inside of the us border. it helped. ever since i had not had a use and hadn't expected to use it any time soon. the problem was not about the spaces they occupied, it's the smell!! i cleaned both exterior and sealed very well in two layers of garbage bags, well it still stank. got rid of them, now feeling good...
