Do you Wax a Fiberglass Roof?
I'm getting ready to do our first waxing of our rig and wondered about waxing the roof. When we had our Itasca we regularly washed the roof, but never waxed it. Just wondering what the rest of you do. BTW, I'm petrified of heights and a suggestion that my wife wax the roof would probably be much more detrimental to my health than getting up on the roof myself.

I don't wax my roof - it's dangerous enough up there without making it slippery. I do wash it 2-3 times per year, though.

I have my roof waxed once a year in Mexico. If you are traveling in forest areas of the East mold starts to grow on your roof. Waxing the roof makes it much easier to clean.

I wash my fiberglass roof whenever the need arises. I have never waxed or put any kind of polish on the roof as either would make it dangerous to walk on should it be wet or have small puddles. I do wax all the vertical surfaces twice a year.

Many use Johnson's Glo Coat. Does the job, goes on with a sponge mop and isn't going to be inspected by anybody.

Seems to me that a fibre glass roof is just as - perhaps MORE - susceptible to deterioration from weather, sun and oxidation as the REST of the outer skin - and deserves the same level of care...
The aluminum roof on our older, fibre glass walled Winnebago MH gets washed as often as the rest of the rig, and if I was worried about footing (I'm NOT!), I'd simply apply some of those commonly available adhesive traction strips in areas where I might walk. Chances are, the ONLY time you will actually BE on that roof, is when you are cleaning it...

Thanks to all for your responses. We did a full wash and wax on the unit. For the roof we put on a wash and wax product. As many of you had stated it is pretty slippery up there so we opted for caution on the roof. BTW, it took us 17 man-hours to wash and hand wax the rig. This is a new rig so it should have been easier than an older rig. The 17 hours was two of us for 8 and half hours each. I'm still sore and will be, oh until about 2020. That's the year, not the TV show!

You didn't mention what finish you had on your roof. Has it been coated with anything? Most fiberglass roofs are coated to preserve the life. Does it have a bright white coating?
The coating on ours has a shinny though rough finish to it (somebody smarter that me can tell you what it is). It is supposed to extend the life of your roof with out wax. And even though I wax ours, it's not that slipery.

I agree with the "It is slippery enough" crowd and I spend more time than most on my roof (Long story but when I'm at the other park I park at that's where I put my Wi-Fi Adapter for best reception)
However I will say this: When I waxed my rig this spring I picked up 10% on the old MPG meter.. And I did NOT wax the roof.
Imagine what I might have gotten if I"d waxed it.
(10% or if you like a bit over 1 MPG) One car I had, Simonize made a 20% diff. But SImonize... On an RV.. is not for the meek and I"m not so bold any more

I wash ours then use Mop N Glow. Much faster than hand waxing and doesn't have to look spectacular since almost no one sees it. Do have to be careful walking on it.
