Door trim replacement on entry door
I am trying to replace the outside door trim on my 2000 Harney coach. I have the new piece from PTL Engineering and It looks like a simple job. Pull the old one off guide the new one in to the track and you are done. Well, I can get the new one into the grove on 3 sides of the door. Its the front part where the hinges are that are giving me trouble. The gasket if that's what it is called will on slide up halfway and then it will not slide any further.
Called PTL they said I have to take the door off as the gasket goes behind the hinges, which it does not.
So my question is has any one got any ideas or done this? Taking the door off is not my idea of fun.
Thanks in advance and everyone stay safe and have the best holidays you can have.

How about a picture so we can see the frame and problem hinge?

Try cleaning the track really well with something like a tooth brush and a mild cleaner or even Windex. then once it is dry, spray silicon spray into the track keeping it slightly wet as you pull the gasket through.

Thanks for the replies. I have cleaned the track really well and I just got some O ring lube and am going to try that tomorrow if it quits raining here It looks like such a simple job. old gasket came right out of the track and in one piece. Maybe the new one is slightly thicker since it is new.
Will let you know how I make out.
Thanks

Up dat on my seal problem. Tried everything I could and could only get the seal half way thru the front track, I just think the new seal is harder to slide because it is new rubber and very just a hair thicker.
Well, I went back and used part of the old seal and part of the new one. All back together, now I need to figure out how to reseal the 45 degree angles at the door corners and I will be done.
Thanks for all who took a look.

Sorry my idea didn't work but glad to hear you were able to MacGyver it.

If you want to try again and the seal is longer than needed. Drill a hole at the top of the new seal, put some cord through the hole nd push/pull at the same time.
If it's black rubber, go to a windshield shop and buy a tube of the black sealant they use on windshields. Pull/pry the corners apart a little and insert the sealant. Clean it up before it dries.

Thanks DSD, I tried pulling and pushing with Vise grips and it would not budge. I am satisfied with using the old piece as it was not a part of the problem with the old seal.
I will take your advice on the windshield sealant.
All the best and have a great Christmas
