Electric Step Ignition Override
When I put my key in the “ON” position, I am not getting 12V to the circuit that should activate the step controller and retract the steps when the door is closed. I have norrowed it down to the part of the circuit between the ignition switch and the 6A breaker voltage input terminal. Does anyone know what might be between the switch and the breaker? Does “ON” activate a relay to send power via the breaker to the yellow wire in the 4 pin connector?

Welcome to iRV2.
I have to ask , what brand of power steps you coach is equipped with, and is the ; retract with key on ( door closed ) the only problem?

Kwikwee 2-step model, brand new. And yes, the only problem is no voltage to the circuit when the key is turned ON and the door is closed. All other step features work as you would expect. NOTE: The ignition override has never worked since we have owned this rig (3 years). I am just now looking into “why” because I am selling it. According to the Reyo manual, the override should be featured.

Shouldn't be a relay. The ignition on circuit only provides a signal to the step controller to retract the step, as long as the door is closed.

I would expect that signal to be 12VDC as the signal passes through a 6 amp breaker. Correct?

My rig does not have a relay or dedicated breaker for the Yellow wire going to the Kwikee Controller. Only the Kwikee Controller which might have a relay inside the brain. (I have the rig Manufacturers schematic.)
If your house battery is off, the Kwikee Controller might not work and the steps could stay extended.
If you know the voltage problem is between the Ignition Yellow wire and the Breaker I would think you need to test for a ground short or broken wire in that pathway.
Maybe your RV manufacturer could help if you do not already have Their schematics.
FWIW, the Ignition yellow Ignition wire on my old rig also serves other components.

(MOST modern design?) the IGN circuit power is protected and only operates the coil of a cube relay; that way, an unrelated short does not blow IGN circuits, just fuses or worst case, cheap cube relay contacts? Good Luck
