Entry steps retract half way overnight
Returned from a rally 3 days ago with no mechanical issues . The next morning
I found the entry steps had retracted half way to the stowed position . When I opened the entry door the steps extended and remained extended for the rest of the day . The next morning I found the steps in the half way retracted position again . The 2018 Essex has 50 amp service in my storage building with 50 amp service at all times . It’s in a storage building which is attached to my business . What’s going on ? Thanks for your input and help .

Like Skip asked, don't keep us guessing, please state brand and model of steps.
If they are electric, this will help with IDing and fixing them.

Are you going in and out? Or are they just retracting for no reason (not a normal retraction from door movement or ignition issue).
Something caught up in the mechanism preventing full retraction?
I have picked up rocks and dirt when they extended only part way and then would only retract part way till all cleaned off.

Steps are electric and are lubed monthly . I don’t know why they are retracting only half way up to stowed position . I did notice today that when the doors are locked with the key fob the acc function on the ignition comes on along with the parking , dash light and head lights . I put the key in the ignition and can rotate key to cancel all of the lights . Could I be having an ignition switch problem which might be affecting the steps ?

Key fob is operating the remote locking system, which probably has a relay to activate the exterior lights, which is then feeding back somewhere back feeding to the ignition switch. Someone forgot some diodes or though this back feed behavior is OK.
For the steps not fully retracting, there is too much mechanical resistance, the motor is failing, or the current sensor, controller is failing.

maybe when you cycle the key to cancel lights ,you cause the steps to retrack 1/2 way ?

The steps are retracting half way sometimes between 6:30 pm and 9:00 am . The coach is in a locked building and no one has access to the coach . Step operation is smooth with no evidence of binding . When I open the door the steps fully extend smoothly. Is there any thing that I can do to test the system?
