Ernie or other Floor remodel pros? Thickness of laminate

Folks,
Think I will tackle a floor remod this winter break on my Rev LE. I have four slides, one with rollers. What I am replacing is carpet and tile, the carpet is actually clean but I would like to modernize the look as well as no longer have to "fret" over the carpet with kids and pets.

Question regarding material. I am leaning towards some higher end laminates for a floating floor, but they are 12-15mm thick (~1/2 inch). I would expect this is not an issue, but wanted to check with others who have potentially or HAVE installed thicker laminates. Is there any type of pad under the carpet? I would imagine the tile is at about 1/2". My fear is the non roller slides having enough room to come in and not damage the flooring.

I will start a thread with my project with lots o photo's

Chris
